|
|
|
I'm currently working on an Android app that rips the pricing information from backpack.tf and creates a list to check prices. It's currently bare bones and doesn't look fancy (its really ugly, but serves it purpose), but I'm looking for some people that have a different phone than I do. Anyone have an android phone that would like to test/try it out?
Current Phones Tested
Nugget - Samsung Galaxy S3 (Stock and Rooted) Android Version - 4.1.2
Nugget - HTC Droid Incredible (Cyanogen Mod) Android Version - 2.3.7 (may not work)
Nugget - Asus Transformer Prime [Tablet] (Stock) - Android Version - 4.1.1
Massive - Motorola Droid Bionic (Stock?) - Version - ?
Updated 8/9/2013
Link to apk - https://www.dropbox.com/s/zjcqwsg8h762m0e/TF2PriceList.apk
Directions
**Make sure you manually clear data and uninstall the app before installing the new version to make sure old database is compatible. Clear data and uninstall by navigating to your application manager in settings, locate the app and click the required buttons. **
1) Enable installation of unknown sources (settings > application settings)
2) Download apk file and place on your sd card
3) Navigate to the apk file on your phone using a file explorer, open it and it should start to install
Added
- Incorporated new UI, but phones and tablets before honeycomb will probably not work with this (gingerbread and below)
- Tables will sync if not created, otherwise press the refresh button to refresh the table that is being shown
- Added a settings menu, but at this time the only option is to delete all tables to make my life easier
- Re-coded the unusual section due to backpack.tf changing their page code. (All old versions were affected)
- When looking at prices for items two should be listed (main price - top and price in $ - bottom)
To Do
- incorporate steam api (may not be feasible)
- create an advanced search option instead of spinners next to search text
- clean up item info pages
Known Bugs
- Cannot switch orientation of phone while database is being created (restricted orientation to portrait for main activity) _________________

Awesome. I'll try to have something up later today. Just want to tweak a few things.
EDIT: backpack.tf reworked their code for the 3rd time this weekend. Currently working on a fix for pulling the data off of their site. Should be good by tomorrow. _________________

If you put that app up for sale without getting the permission of the person that runs BackpackTF or wherever you get your info from, you might get into trouble. _________________ http://tf2b.com/profiles/76561197988317087

Call it a "limited web browser" and he can prolly avoid that. After all it's just grabbing information from a website and displaying it to the user... _________________

That'd be pretty shitty, ethically. Someone went to the work to get all that information and post it and update it, and then snagging it and making cash off of it without at least asking permission is kinda douchey.
An app for friends that makes it easier and isn't about making money is cool, but it wouldn't sit well with me if someone made money off of someone else's work.
I don't know what all went in to the site in the first place to give it that database/keep it running, but it can't be easy. _________________ http://tf2b.com/profiles/76561197988317087

I assume you are thinking I want to montetize this app our friend created... not the case. I have 2 IT companies and one of them creates commercial software... has nothing to do with TF2, backpack, or even gaming...

Sorry bud. This isn't how the world works.
Even the backpack.tf is exploiting the usage of the getAttr and setAttr attributes in it's database from another source, who uses Ads to acquire income.

The database is community driven for prices. Still not sure if I want to include ads or not. _________________

In all honesty, I think I've been trying to start an argument for the sake of arguing. It's a fuckin' awesome app and if you do an apple version I'd be the first in line to download. _________________ http://tf2b.com/profiles/76561197988317087
