Unofficial CT minecraft server?

So my friend, Imok, runs a blog and as it so happens he has some space allocated for a minecraft server. It has been primarily inactive, but he has graciously agreed to allow us use of it. The server runs access using a whitelist and at the moment without further funds it can host at most 5 people (this may change depending on world size, server stability, etc.).

So thoughts? Do we want to use my friends server, should we set up our own?

We would also most likely run an adventure server.

I'd be interested, if we keep it whitelisted (Minecraft's public playerbase is mostly young and annoying now). A 10-player server from our TF2 host is $7.64 a month if annualized ($91.70 per year).

Ok, so we have a server. Right now I had badman and myself set it up so that we can play around with it. Messy, informed me that when the new patch goes live the biome generation will be changed, so chances are we might refresh the server at that point.

We run a whitelist so I need minecraft user names.

Do we know much about this? I just tested this out with the latest snapshot by taking a 1.2 world and loading it up. New terrain connected smoothly to the old terrain. If that ends up being the case, I don't think we need to restart.

Well, there will be new terrain types and changes to existing things like villages. It depends on whether we want to have to expand out into the new stuff or have it all generate normally. It's always connected alright, just not always seamlessly... but we already have a giant glitch wall near spawn anyway.
