"If Fabio Capello and other coaches who failed to achieve glory at the World Cup thought they had it bad best they think again. The coach of North Korea Kim Jong-hun was first lambasted by players (under orders), then sacked, made to face public ridicule and finally expelled from the Worker's Party and instructed to be a construction labourer following his teams early exit from the tournament.

Reports now say that he stands accused of betraying General Kim Jong-un, the shadowy son of North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-il, which could result in his facing execution.

If regard is had to the fact that North Korea executed two top officials - one for a currency revaluation and another who was in charge of diplomatic talks with South Korea - what price the life of a football coach who has underachieved?

During the Portugal game the commentary was stopped at half-time and did not get reported the next day.

When the squad returned home they were forced to stand for six hours on a stage at the People’s Palace of Culture while an audience of 400 party officials, athletes and students reprimanded and ridiculed them. "

Full link. What I want to know is how the hell anybody would have found out, if this were true. There's not a lot of foreign journalists hanging out in Pyongyang.

I don't know, but it would fit just fine in NK and Kim. There are some reporters who get into the country and get to interview some people(set up meetings, but still could squeeze some information), plus there are people constantly trying to get away from that place, so it's not impossible to get info.

I was joking about it when Portugal won the NK team 8 - 0(or 6-7 - 0..) that their whole team would be executed, but now it's just sad.

Some North Koreans have ways of accessing information/communicating with the outside world. I've heard Chinese cell phones are quite popular near the northern border, where the signal is strong.
