Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) and Beyond (Beat Writers Needed)

I want to hear more from people who are using / testing Windows 7 Release Candidate as we speak. Please post reviews, thoughts, snafus, commentary, as well as news articles and updates here.

As you may know, I have been dual-booting XP and Win7 RC for a week or two and so far, so good. I don't really understand why I particularly like it better than Vista, which never seemed too pleasant. Then again, I put Vista on my tablet, where it was very poorly supported Sad

Windows 7 natively supports touch interfaces

Also, someone got Win7 to run on shit.

My main desktop has been running Win7 RC since May I think and my laptop has been running Win7 RTM for over a month now (I have microsoft tech net so everything gets released when it goes RTM).

I love it. My laptop is from the fall of 06 and was "vista ready." Vista did run all right on it, but Win7 runs great. The coolest part when I was upgrading from Vista was that it automatically downloaded the Win7 drivers for my laptop before in installed Win7. So, I never had to download the wifi drivers manually. I did have to use a driver hack to get the ATI drivers to work. There were no official HP drivers for my laptop (at the time. I haven't checked recently) and there is an agreement between ATI/Nvidia and their vendors that only the vendors can release video drivers for their laptops. The hack does something to the registry that allows you to install the generic ATI drivers.

Anyway, the UI just feels better. The file explorer interface is much nicer. I like the new taskbar and the notifications on the bottom right are much cleaner. You can choose how you want to display each of the notification icons.

The virtual XP installation also works nicely. I don't have a lot of use for it because all my programs work, but I've tested it and it works great. You can install programs in XP and have short cuts to it in your start menu. Only the program window itself is displayed so you don't have a huge window with XP and then the program window inside of that.

There are libraries now that operate more like a music program that shows all your music in multiple locations. You still have your Music, Pictures, and Videos user folders but Win7 puts more importance on your libraries. Clicking Music will bring you to your music library. It's sort of a different way of thinking about file management but it's much more useful. It also integrates nicely into Windows Home Server (after the next power pack comes out in a month). You also can add favorite file locations to the windows explorer interface. That's handy if you have common folder you often navigate to.

It sounds like a worthy upgrade, I've been having tons of compatibility issues with Vista since the day I bought it. Vista especially hates 1942, which means I in turn hate it.
