Oatmeal

So I never really ate oatmeal as a kid until I decided to try it last semester. Kroger had some variety pack of flavors that sounded good (maple and brown sugar, apple cinnamon, etc -not fruity kinds). I really enjoyed the Maple and Brown Sugar so I bought a bunch of that when it was on-sale and I'm finishing it up now.

Anyway, the kind of oatmeal I make is maple + BS using water in a Rubbermaid bowl in the microwave for about a minute and a half and I think it tastes pretty good. Not as good as, you know, Reeses' Puffs, but despite being processed it's a relatively healthy, fibrous, carbohydrate-filled breakfast supplement.

My question is, what brands / flavors do you enjoy?

And do you make it with Milk? What %? All I buy is skim milk .. I think I tried making oatmeal with skim once and I forgot what happened but I think it was OK. Some people say the milk makes it much much much better. Do I just put the milk in and then microwave it that way???

I found it disgusting when I was a kid. Havent tried it since, it still looks pretty nasty to me. idk, I have a weird thing about eating things that look and smell like barf.

Yes, Maple + BS ftw. You put the milk in AFTER it's cooked. Not too much cuz if it gets too cold it's just grewl.

I alternate with Grapenuts - keeps things a movin, and that my friend is a good thing. Very Happy

make original quaker oatmeal on the stove and when its ready put a nice piece of butter in the center, surround the oatmeal with milk, and top it all off with a generous heaping of cinnamon and sugar.

Good source of energy for backpacking trips. That seems to be the only time I eat it, is out in the woods..

fine with just water imo. Use less water than recommended so its sticky and hearty as hell.

A couple summers ago I found that those little single serving packages of Quaker oatmeal are the greatest runner's fuel ever. I have one of those with a half glass of water before I start and I can really get a good run in.
