Alright, this is going to be a tough one. I've been having this discussion with people lately (including some CTs) and it's been extremely interesting to say the absolute least. I really love to debate this with people and it's really freaking tough to name your ten favorite games of all time since there are so many factors that decide what makes them good. I've finally narrowed my top ten down and am wondering how you guys would compare. To ease things along, let's not bother ordering them in any specific way, just give me your top ten. Mine are as follows:

Half-Life
Starfox 64
Diablo II
Aliens vs. Predator 2
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Final Fantasy IX
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Max Payne
The Curse of Monkey Island

There are so many others I love and it hurt to cut them, but these ten are amazing in their own special ways to me.

I'm obsessed with Zelda, so I'm not going to include any one of those titles.

My list is based on which games I played for a very long time. Each game is a "phase" of my life.

Perfect Dark
Final Fantasy Tactics
World of Warcraft
Starcraft
Age of Mythology
Sim Ant
Streets of Rage
Maplestory
Stronghold
Xconq

Considering we're a '42 community, I don't think that counts Wink

SimTower
Age of Empires II
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Europa Universalis II
Port Royale
Battlefield 1942
Sid Meier's Pirates! (2004)
Audiosurf
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
Left 4 Dead

Mine is mainly like Stealth's; I spent ages at a time with each of those (currently on L4D). They're roughly in order of the sequence I was hooked on them (hence why RA2 is later in the list, took 'til last fall to become completely hooked), though there is considerable overlap. I can think about each game and it dredges up tons of unrelated memories from the time I was most into it.

I did include '42 because it's either the game I've played the most ever or maybe #2, and I play vanilla.

Zelda games obviously own all others though. Favorite is Link's Awakening by far; I used to have all three save files full of completed games, and would just delete one, play through it, delete the next, repeat, etc. Oracle of Seasons comes close to it in time spent and times replayed though. For the rest, my favorite story is Ocarina. Favorite Zelda game as a whole is Majora's Mask for its polish, style, atmosphere, and ability to re-fight bosses at will. And favorite ending is Wind Waker's.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Smash Bros (n64 or melee)
Harvest Moon N64
Goldeneye 64
Warcraft (2 and 3)
Homeworld
BF1942
Shadow of the Colossus
Civilization 2: Call to Power
Duke Nukem 3D

I agree too that the Zelda games are a catagory of their own. And in that regard:

1. Wind Waker
2. Ocarina of Time
3. Majora's Mask
