I'm not claustrophobic either, but 41 hours in a box with no toilet, no water, no food (not as big a deal as water though), and no idea just how long you'll be in there seems pretty scary anyways.

Also, it mentions the elevator system at the Mariott Marquis in NYC. Those really do suck -- you punch in the floor you're headed for before it will call the elevator, then it tells you which one to wait for (or to get in, if one's already there). So you get people asking if you're going up or down who get in without realizing the controls for floor numbers are outside. Also groups of people tend to only hit their number once instead of once per person, so it uses one elevator for a ton of people when it should be splitting them up.

Hahah - that's horrible. It sucks that had to happen to someone who probably has a serious childhood fear of being stuck in a elevator.

Heh....he did try, I think. Apparently the top panels are meant for rescuers to get in, not for passengers to get out. To protect people from injuring or killing themselves in the shaft, the panel must be bolted shut from the outside, by law.
