Just out of curiosity, how many of you have ever showered in the dark?

I've done it when I was really little and every time it's mentioned, I'm asked about it. So, I'd figured I'd ask if any of you guys have done it.

The first thing people always ask is "How can you see?"

Well, there's two types of "dark" showers. There's complete darkness in which I won't be able to see. (I call these true Dark Showers) And there's another in which I place a very small light (hardly enough to show any detail) and thus, I get the general outline of shapes. In the shower however, there's the curtain and it blocks any light produced from my small light. (I call these Gray Showers as it's dark, but you can still make the outlines of shapes)

So for dark showers, I absolutely cannot see unless there's some light coming up from under the door. I use my memory in which to find my shampoo etc. I feel the basic shapes for it. I know exactly what shape the bottle is, how big it is, and where I keep it. My Shampoo bottle is the biggest bottle I have, so if I ever dropped it, I know what to feel for. My conditioner is very thin.

As for turning on the water, that was a challenge at first. Depending where I'm at determines how I turn it on. At home, my water is a dial. I just turn it to the left to get hot water. I've turned it in the dark so many times that I could just turn it almost to the exact degree and the water will be perfect. I'll never need to look at it. For other places, it takes me several minutes to get the layout of turning it on, but if I get too frustrated, I will turn on a light.

The next question people will always ask "Why take a shower in the dark? I don't see the point."

When I wake up, the last thing I want is to be blinded with light. I absolutely hate it. When my alarms go off, I'll get up and walk to the shower after grabbing the clothes I need (I generally lay them out the night before so I don't have to turn on the light). I can stand in the shower in the dark with my eyes closed, just feeling the water and heat. After being in there for about 10-20 minutes, my eyes are open as wide as they would be if I were awake.

Another minor thing is that whenever I get out of that shower and I'm still in the dark, I feel like I have much more energy for some reason. I'm not really sure if the darkness has anything to really do with it... It may be a psychological thing... but whenever I turn on the light and take a shower, I feel drained. When the light's off, it's like a reverse effect.

And a final question (which isn't always asked), "When/Why did you start doing this?"

Growing up, I wanted to be a scientist. I had so many wacky experiments, it was crazy. The experiment I had for this was not to see if one could take a shower in the dark, but one of my friends got her eye hit with a stick. She almost lost it and during this time, I wanted to "experience" what she was going through. For one day, I took a shower in the dark. When I got out, I put on a blindfold on and tried to perform everyday tasks. Needless to say, I was shocked. But I rather enjoyed the shower in the dark. Since then, I've done it.

Very interesting. I like your one-eye experiment too Smile

I've never tried it. I'm kind of insane, I turn on as much light as I can because my shower is very odd. Living in an old house, my shower is very creepy and hard to maneuver in.

Here's a good idea: Shower/bathroom lights that gradually get to regular brightness when you shower in the morning Smile

I usually don't turn on the light when I shower, but my bathroom has a window that gets a lot of light when the sun is rising, so it's not really very dark in there at all.

Funny this is, when I get out of the bathroom, I'm awake. The lights won't bother me outside of the bathroom. I think it has something to do with the shower.

there have been a few times when the power has gone off (usually after a sandstorm) and i have had to shower in the dark........but other than when im forced to, i never have.

and yes, it was dark dark........was using a zippo to fined shit........of coarse that does not work in the shower, so i was fucked.

was a good excuse to eat a lot and drink all the beer in the fridge though Razz

In the mornings, I usually wake up, but dont really know I'm awake until somewhere during my shower, and I'm like "Holy fuck, how did I get here?" But my shower lets in alot of light, and it faces directly where the sun rises in the morning so if I was awake trying this it'd be hard to get the entire experience. But I think I'll try it one night, just because it sounds fun. And because I like to play with my hands.

wow stealth looking at this and other topics, our sleeping habits are almost the same. Like the 4 alarm clock thing. Ive showered in the dark before only like twice on purpose but 3-4 becauseof electricity going out in the area. it is fun and i never really thought to do it on a regular basis. Im gonna try it tommorow Very Happy

and yeah i could do pretty much anything in that bathroom with no light...even piss in the toilet standing. (i know from experience)
