It was actually quite funny watching the huge reaction to the facebook changes. Apparently many people take the internet very seriously.

As for me, I just figured I'd deactivate my account if they didn't change. Now that they did I can't think of an excuse to deactivate right now.

You have to be a member, and have a school email I do recall. Also your school must have been added in. Maybe businesses can do it now too though. But you need be a member to see.

They also added a high school facebook about a year back. It will accept any email address for the registration setup, whereas the college one is (supposed to be) limited to a valid college email address. That may be how your cousin got on.

They've also added the capability of faculty, staff, and alumni to setup accounts. I'm not sure about business, but it may be the case.

Conspiracy theories about the CIA having unlimited access also are circulating...

It is also possible to directly link to your profile so that anyone can see it without being logged into the system, but you have to know the full, long address to be able to see that.
