In the novel (Which they obviously didnt follow) They were vampires.

Actually you're wrong. Christopher Nolan has already said that he'll do anything possible to not kill of the bad guys. Mostly for the story line. As Batman is Batman longer, more and more whackos pop up. Thats why the Scarecrow will be in the sequel as well.

Producers had even mentioned that the Joker would only be captured at the end of the sequel and his trial would take place during the third one. SO I guess they'll need a new actor.

Heath ledger was an awesome actor, its incredibly dissapointing that he wont make anymore movies.

Does anyone else think this whole thing just stinks of Marilyn Monroe? He was nominated for an academy award and was playing the villain in this summer's biggest movie. He was at the top of the game and the whole thing looks like a suicide. I'm not one to really care about celebrity news, but this is such a sad story of self destruction. I imagine someone out there will compare this to River Phoenix very soon.
