Asynchronous JavaScript + XML
Basically AJAX is some new style of programming for the web that allows instant shit to happen. Very cool. _________________ is now -=|CT|=- Frothy Mixture

I like the idea of style sheets and just sending XML data instead of full web pages. But I also dont see everyone/everybiz using the same 6 standard AJAX style sheets - boring. And for the users, woo hoo lets go download style sheets for 5 minutes so we can maybe upload some displays 5 seconds quicker next time. THe data is still the data and that will get there when it gets there. I guess I need to study it. Send me the monkey hitting itself in the head and nodding style sheet and I guess I wont notice how slow my server response REALLY is... Its the "Really Monkey?" XSLT. _________________

Compared to ASP XML/XSLT with a little java thrown in is dramatically faster for what we use it for. Since 90% of the bank's income is directly related to the net, speed is everything. You are right Brutus not eveyone/everybiz needs it, but it's perfect for all the forms we have. Besides with well over 250 projects in various stages requirements, development, testing etc. If we did the same thing without trying to take advantage of new methods of doing dev we'd get steamrolled eventually by some other company that kept investigating new ways of doing things... _________________ Go Phuck yourself

I am a HUGE proponent of investigating new developments. I am also a HUGE naysayer and skeptical of EVERYTHING. Its a strange combo I know. It always raises eyebrows at work. _________________

Naysaying is a good thing... Sometimes I'm listened to and sometimes some VP somewhere has an agenda so the software we implement gets a "special IndyMac twist" That's when the life of Dilbert kicks in for me. I get to sit there and let it happen, because raising concerns (which are legitimate) only pisses-off senior management. _________________ Go Phuck yourself

Well Supa, one gets tired after a while. I used to work for a company with 18 partners! To get ANYTHING done took a CLUSTER f*%& of committees and meetings. I spent most of my time battling for the right thing. Then I had a revalation: Convince 1 manager of the issue, idea, etc - make him think he came up with the idea (easy to do with egomaniacs) - and he will champion it until it gets approved, funded, accepted, etc. - I would just sit back and let the monkeys I had deployed back on the Partner's backs do their work.
Worked like a charm - they never realized that they worked for me! _________________

Sometimes you have to lose a few battles in order to win the war (or at least survive the conflict).
Since my company typically reshuffles the deck every 6 months there are always internal opportunities, you have to survive until better ones become available.
Fighting hard for certain causes in the corporate world isn't always the smartest thing to do. Massive hit it right on the head introduce an idea to an ally in Senior management and let them champion the cause. If the cause dies then find another but usually it's easier to get things done this way. _________________ Go Phuck yourself
