ok i just want to know somthing.....

i have pluged in 3 HDD's........1 80GB HDD that i have everything on so far (just ment for it to be OS)

and the 2 other 250GB hard drives i have made into a RAID 0 through my BIOS.....any way the 2 hard drives show up in the DOS screen during boot up and show that everything is ok with them.....but only the 80GB hard drive with the OS on it shows up in windows.....

it is not a problem now but before i start to download stuff i would like to have my 500GB back.... (yes i know i will only get somthing like 467GB but still....)

i have installed all of the drivers and everything...

any ideas?

Right click "My Computer"

Go to "Manage"

Select "Storage"

Select "Disk Management(Local)"

Check around for your bigass RAID thing. Make sure you format em with NTFS.

I am not exactly sure of your intentions with 3 HDs. Confused

80GB for just OS is cool. But RAID 0 though is for speed and actually LESS redundant than 1 hard drive (2HD = MORE chance of failure).

Hmm, I guess it could read/write game info quicker??? I dun get it. Why all the HDs and why RAID 0?

Yeah, i forgot to add, run those giant HDD's at RAID 1 if anything. I mean, yeah, RAID is Redundant Array of Inexpensive Drives, but RAID 0'ing 2x250gb storage drives is beyond redundancy Rolling Eyes

RAID 0 puts half of your info on each drive. If you lose EITHER the other data is worthless. Less than redundant - its Retarded array of independant drives if its meant for storage and not speed(2 drives = 2x I/O connections and therefor throughput).

thanks

lol for some reson i forgot it needed to be formated for window use....

oh and the reson i an RAID 0 ing the hard drives is 1, for the speed, 2, and the REAL reson, so i can have 2 small hard drives to be read and used as 1 for 2/3 the price of a 450GB+ hard drive

i do know that it is less stable, and that is why i have a 2nd hard drive for my OS...

oh by the way DOOM III is great....but it gives me motion sickness for some reson. oh well still looks great. have yet to play HL2

No, it doesn't necessarily make it less stable.

Let's assume that every drive has about the same chance of failing. If you have one drive, and it fails, then BAM, you're fucked in the ass if you didnt back up.

Say you have RAID 0. Two hard drives that appear as one. Twice the throughput as brutus said. I'm not sure how the fragmentation works, but let's assume Byte 1 becomes Nibble A and Nibble B. Put one on each physical drive. The drive that Nibble A is on has a critical failure and the drive head careens through the platter. Byte 1 no longer exists because half the data is missing.

Say you've got some data you wanna keep secured. Maybe an OS image or a giant collection of ASCII pr0n made by your lately departed friend. What are you gonna do to protect that shit? Raid 1 motherfucker. Mirrors data over so you don't get fucked in the ass if one drive goes out. w00t. It will slow shit down a bit, but not by too much.

This is why you need a higher level raid controller and/or 3+ drives for a better system. Speed AND security are possible if you do it just right .. but you didn't.

If you stop and think, you'd realize how stupid that is. 500GB of fast storage for your movies and stuff, and then 80GB of slightly slower for your OS. As Johnny Cochran said, "THAT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE."

oh and on the thing wang was talking about with the RAID 0, i place all of the hard to find stuff and what not in to the 80GB hard drive....the 470GB is almost only for 4 years of games (+ what i have now)

oh and K9 if you REALY want to know, i use a 1 GB USB drive for porn.....i realy just dont use it much and i dont think i have any more than 100MB on it......even with some word documents and military pics....and i think a 600 page book i have on my other comp any way......
