Post subject: problem with pre install of win xp
Top Reply with quote

ok i finaly got around to installing an OS on my comp.....

but, of corse i had a problem (figures)

during the pre insdtall, there is a DOS window and a window that shows what progres the install is makeing (3 things) there is the "setting display resolutions" part, a "starting networking" part and a "finishing winpe" part. once it gets to the starting networking part it hangs there for a few secons and then a red x beside that and then the window closes and i am still in the pre instal part and cant get back to the bios and if you shut down, the comp thinks there is a OS on the hard drive.....

the hard drive i can fix but i need to instal winxp to do anything besides just fool around with overclocking.
if any one knows anything about this or why a comp with out a OS would need to network pleze post it.

Might I suggest buying a pre-built computer that you don't have to tinker with.

You will need to register XP as part of the install. Is this a FULL XP install CD? I hope so... I hate "upgrades", tired of em.

1. ONLY If it is _FULL_ XP install and you still have DOS partitions then use a Win98 Install Disk to run fdisk.exe and remove all DOS partitions.

2. Configure your BIOS to boot from CD

3. Boot from CD and install Win XP. You WILL need Internet access! There is a way to get around this if its Pro XP but lets keep it simple...

*Note: If you are upgrading then dont wipe anything, and just plug-in/configure your Networking stuff like it wants and try again.
