No. I see of no reason to switch to it, unless I HAVE to. Besides, most gaming companies have called it the devil.

Nah, it follows the "every other Windows sucks" rule.
7 is a good one, which means 8 has to be bad by default. 9 will be amazing though. _________________

Every other release of Windows sux ass
3.1: good
95: ass
98SE: good
Millenium: sux ass
2000 pro: good
XP original: Sux ass
XP SP1 +: good (SP1 was almost a new version)
Vista: sux balls
7: good
by the above pattern I predict major suckage for 8 - So I would be a NO - EVEN if they have gotten away from their idiotic naming conventions.. _________________

It's amazing to me how resilient that pattern is. _________________ -=|CT|=-Descartes

Windows 8 is a disaster. When you click the start menu it gives you the Xbox Live screen, every one of your options gets its own colored box. In order to power your computer down, you have to hti the start menu, then on the xbox live homepage move your mouse to the bottom right hand corner of the screen, and then lift it up. This makes a side bar pop up. You choose settings from the side bar, then choose power usage and options from the settings, and then click the bar that says power options and scroll to "turn off computer". That is an absurd amount of work for a function that used to take 2 button clicks. Even if I didn't hate the UI, which I do, that is just an idiotic idea

Fisher Price Windows yayyy
But no, I'm keeping 7. Works nicely; cost a tidy sum; no reason to switch. _________________

I read one comment on different forum about Windows8:
Quote: |
I use Windows 8 and I am impressed by how fast it is. It's not clunky or hard to use. You'd have to be an idiot not to understand how to use it. It's not drastically different than Windows 7 except for the home screen with all the icons. Everyone seems to hate new things, like new Facebook layout, new Windows layout, new Steam layouts. It's ridiculous. |
Most of the negative comments came from people who haven't tried it themselves.
Have you guys tried it? You can get normal windows view on it aswell. Plus I heard you can upgrade from Win7 really cheaply. _________________

I see your point, but my perspective currently is this:
I am perfectly content with Windows 7 to where I don't feel I need to upgrade to anything. I view upgrading to Windows 8 to see if I will potentially like it is just a few hour long hassle, especially if I end up just wanting to change it back. Essentially I don't want to upgrade to something I might come to hate when I have no issues with what I already have
In short: I will wait to try it on someone else's computer first before ever considering putting it on mine.
EDIT: Why isn't this thread in the Computer Tech Section? _________________

I'm never the first to buy anything. I know it can be riddled with hidden bugs. And if it doesn't have any, then they get a pat on the back. In either case, I don't hurt my bank and getting stuck with a piece of shit.
What I don't like about "new" is flashy. When something works amazingly well, like say, Word, why update it other than to make sure it's compatible? Sure, add some new features, but don't move my menus around so I have to find shit again.
If you ask me, I still prefer Win XP. They should have used it's interface, updated it, and made it compatible for modern technology. It was neat, clean, reliable, and I loved the navigation more. But, they wanted to have cool graphics similar to the Mac OS. _________________ Motherfucking Triangles! Being all three sided n' shit, who do they think they are?!

I have used windows 8 and I find it atrocious. Lego's roommate has the beta downloaded on a laptop and I took a gander at it. Was profoundly unimpressed. If I can get rid of the mobile layout then I would consider switching, but still probably wouldn't do it unless the news came out that windows 7 was back breakingly obsolete in some way

I'm gonna piggy back of the XP ideas and Massive's insight on the "The OS sucks every other year" thing.
The same thing that happened with XP is gonna happen with Windows 7. Everyone liked it more than version after it, and people are going to run it until Windows 9, or windows Whatthefuckever, comes out. _________________ http://tf2b.com/profiles/76561197988317087
