I bought a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard at Best Buy today and I thought I'd leave a few comments on it in case someone else is in the market.

I just transferred from one of those ultra slim Apple keyboards to this and this is how it seems to balance out to me. Ergonomics on this style is much better than the Apple one since all of the keys are in their proper, Windows compatible places. Having a print screen button is priceless for the type of personal project I'm doing right now. In addition to that, the function keys at the top are actually pretty nice. There's even a shortcut for the calculator.

In terms of typing, I'm starting like it better already. While the Apple one has that really fast precision of a laptop keyboard, that gets lost over time
(less than 6 months, actually). I took care of this keyboard and the space bar still ended up feeling like I'd spilled some sort of soda on it at one point. That's one of the most important keys seeing as how it lets guys like us jump as well as separate words. On the flip side, though, I now have to push the keys just a little harder to get them to work, whereas the Apple was lightning quick and snappy. It made me into an acrobatic killer in games like Aliens vs Predator and Day of Defeat.

For multimedia use, I'm sure I'll be happier with it, but I've lost just a tiny bit of precision for games for the time being. I'm sure I'll adapt, but that's what I get with a generalist keyboard. If anyone else wants to share info on the quest for the perfect keyboard, please do. Now that everything is getting more complicated, the good ones are much more expensive and it sucks shopping around blind.

I've used Saitek Eclipse for years and I love it. It's just a regular USB keyboard with no fancy buttons but it feels just as sturdy as on the day of purchase.

I've got the Logitech on my list of potentials for my hypothetical new desktop that I was going to build a couple months ago. Also got just their standard keyboard, which is a ton cheaper:

Also this one which is the same as the normal keyboard but with media buttons and such:

I'm really liking my SteelSeries Merc. The regular version (not Merc Stealth) is pretty cheap, it feels solid, and the game pad puts a lot of keys within easy reach.
