Half off 'til next Monday. I'll almost certainly be getting it. There's also DLC totaling $15.97 USD, not sure about that.

Dunno why it says "10AM PST" when we're still on daylight savings time -- they likely mean PDT.

I really wanted this game, but reviews said it was buggy as hell. All patched up now?

Let us know if its trouble free or hassle-prone.

mmm total war...

This game has few problems that keeps it from being the best total war game:

- AI while being better than older games in this it's more useless than in Rome or Medieval2. On city maps the enemy just garrisones the houses when your army isn't even marching that way and makes it really annoing to fight them off from there.

- There is no diplomacy to speak off. This is total war from the second round you start. No matter what country and what you do, someone will attack you. Usually it means every nation around you will be your enemy in the next few turns.

- cavalry is useless unless you are going to take down cannons. You can try to attack the enemy from behind/side/infront, it usually makes little to no difference. Theres no satisfying result from well placed cavalry rush to enemies from behind.

- Battles last too long. In Rome the fights are over really fast and if you can attack enemy from sides they will crush the opponent. On Empires even if you manage to strike from behind it won't break their ranks and defences. The mass force just isn't there, like the troops are all stiffy and slow. Rank fires aren't that effective even if enemy masses their troops infront of you. It just doesn't feel good.

- Campaign map is slow slow slow. At first the animations seem kind of nice, but later on I just wish I could skip them.

- The game feels sort of quiet. Compare it to Rome, theres all kind of sounds, music and noise all the time Theres is almoust none in Empires. So the immersion and feel of huge armies isn't there(it does look really good tho. almoust like from some painting at times).

This game was rushed and was unfinished, even the devs admitted this. Now they have made it playable, but this is supposed to be the last big patch for Empires, so I guess there won't be anymore bigger improvements from occasional bug fixes. This is the version it should have been on release day.

It's still a good game. I would start searching for mods if the patching of this game was any better. Some have crashing issues because they have mods installed when they try to play the patched up Empire.

And most of the problem I mentioned can be fixed with mods. There is this realism mod that makes the rank fire actually deadly if enemy tries to charge you when you are in tight line. Now melee units can just charge and only lose 10-20 units.

Game is on sale again.

Megapack is pretty damn good deal if you don't own the earlier games either.

New patch for Empire is in the making: http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/67565

How ironic. And just like always with D2D, it's NA only.
