I'm not going to lie, I feel really disappointed by this. Game look's exactly like L4D and plays the same, this is like some sort of booster pack with just new skin and maps added. Like some sort of custom mod to it. This is something EA would pull out with their Battlefield shits. _________________

Wow. Just wow. Except EA doesn't release the mod a mere 364 days after the original (Nov 17 '09, compared to Nov 18 '08 ). _________________

It has 5 campaigns with versus and survivor at launch. Plus it has one new game mode, which they haven't announced yet.
I have also heard that they will still continue to support L4D(unlikely imo, but could mean just the match making upgrade and SDK support).
I still don't like this idea. Not only is it on the same engine with little to no improvements, 1 year from previous game and now it will split the modding and user community in half. This could still be a DLC(maybe, who knows) or some really cheaply priced game. _________________

I'm hoping it's Valve being Valve and lying about what they're really planning. _________________

I also hope this is a joke. This might be one of the worst moves Valve has made. _________________ There is no reality. There is only this. This time. This place. This Contest. Be the best. The quick timing and small upgrade really doesn't seem like Valve, especially looking at HL to HL 2 in terms of the engine switch and super long development. I'm willing to bet that if it's a full price title, there will be a discount on steam for current L4D owners, especially if they're including the original campaigns. This is the sort of stuff that Valve has been giving away with TF2 for a while now. Valve can replace L4D on steam with L4D2, keep selling it at $40 or raise the price back to $50 and keep making money. Original owners could get a price break or maybe two licenses for the price of one (one for a friend since it's co-op). I'm pulling this out of my ass, but it seems more like Valve. The 360 side is a little tougher to figure out, but it's a bad idea to buy a Valve game for 360 anyway.

You're shitting me. They've already got a sequel going? They're probably still in the earliest of production stages. I can't imagine they'd make a quick crappy sequel. It is Valve after all.

It's not really a sequel by the looks of it, but more like an expansion pack that is being sold as a sequel. They took all the suggestion from forums to fix the problems in L4D and instead of fixing them they decided to make a full game out of it. And they say the content in it justifies it, but the content is only reskinned zombies and maps... .
The thing is that Valve actually said that they will release new content to L4D for free when the game was released. New campaigns, weapons and stuff.
And Atomiktoaster.
I have read someone requesting this, but how hard would it be? I mean the people who buys retail games won't get the discount and I bet those sales are higher than the Steam ones. _________________

That's pretty fucking lame.
Don't get me wrong the footage that I have seen is better than L4D's, but still in no where in hell would justify 50$ price tag. _________________

Amazon puts up pre-orders with a price guarantee though, so they don't have to confirm final pricing with the publisher. If it drops, you get the lower price. $50 would mean I'm probably not buying it at launch, but I'm still hopeful that it will be less, at least on steam for people who already have L4D in their account.

A few gems--
Quote: | So the team brought their concepts and ideas to create a sequel to Gabe Newell, and even he was skeptical about the idea. According to Faliszek, he expressed his doubts, and claimed this move was against the character of the company. "To Gabe's credit, and he's a great guy to work for, he said if this is what you want to do, if this is what you're excited about, go do it." |
Even Gabe was against it!
Quote: | The SDK will be coming out of beta in the next week or so, and Faliszek points to that to prove that Left 4 Dead will still be updated. |
"Updated" with something that can potentially be used to make stuff that the majority of the playerbase will never touch.
Quote: | "My dream is to have 16 characters, going through the world, having their experiences and their own views." Valve has piles of concepts for characters; the possibilities are limitless. |
