Alright so bear with me; I haven't been keeping up for shit as to computer hardware. Today I purchased a new computer, and from what I've been able to gather I think it was a pretty amazing deal.

I got: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9081325&type=product&id=1218017465909

This is what I bought. It has the i7 processor and DDR3 ram, which I've tried to figure out all day and have discovered are good as fuck. But look at the price, and then look at this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8808294&type=product&id=1206142366661

This one is normally 2 grand, a good G more expensive then mine. From what I'm reading though it is a inferior machine. My question is: why would that computer cost so much more, is it more powerful in some way I don't understand? Is best buy retarded?

Much thanks to whoever can un-fuck my understanding of this.

confizzled...

I'd take the Dell XPS for $60 more. Both seem like decent machines.

Not sure which one you thought was $2000, they are both ~$1100.

The XPS was originally 2,000, but I think only because it's such a marketed product. I think mine might actually be better then it for about 900 less normally.

The i7 and the 4850 in the Gateway beat the Q6600 and 8800 GT in the Dell pretty easily. I wasn't trying too hard, but I got a price of about 1300 when I tried to build an i7 system that would beat the Gateway on Newegg. Seems like you got a pretty decent deal.

Incidently, Tom's hardware just did a feature on OCing the i7 920. Not sure what that does to Dell's warranty, but it's worth a read.

decent deal - btu I hate best buy. The i7 920 beats the Q6600 handily.
