I just got in some (not too old) trade in PCs from a customer. 6 P4 3Ghz systems with 1GB. I intend to turn 1 into a Linux Gaming box - dedicated to that - and document the process the entire way to loading and running (hopefully) BF, BFP, DC, etc.

The distro of choice will be Ubuntu, since it is one of the most user friendly distro and I want to make it easy for others to do the same.

Here we go>>

Prerequisite: scrounge up or buy a 1/2 way decent video card. Upgrade to at least 2GB, more if these MBs can take it.

Step 1: Downloading the latest dist. of Ubuntu. and then will burn the ISO.

I'd put 3GB of RAM in one system and run a windows server off of it. Easiest OS to use / most supported (maybe not the most efficient). Uses only the RAM you have plus there's no need for a video card upgrade.

Maybe, but the intent is to build something open source (not Windows) that will play games, and document so anyone can do it without buying or 'obtaining' a server OS or otherwise.

Maybe no one gives a shit, but oh well then for my own amusement.

Is this going to run the client apps, or is it just a dedicated linux server? I have ubuntu installed on my machine (along with XP and Win 7 32) but I've never really even thought about gaming on it.

Say this out loud in a semi retarded southern voice

"Ubuntu to you too."

That was the catch phrase of my school for all the tech geeks. People didn't know what the hell it was, but it sure was damn funny.
