Current registration system asks users a random multiplication question from 1�1 to 12�12. It's all original code, too, so someone must've sudenly made a breakthrough that lets them read and answer extra non-standard questions like that. I'll prolly have to make the security question more abstract and though-requiring, or have multiple questions to lower chances of a bot getting them all right.

It could be. But the bots are pretty sophisticated too; they can get past phpBB's built-in image code and activate accounts via email (though the activation step would be simple for a human to handle since its just clicking links).

I'd do calculus problems, but then even I wouldn't have been able to sign up until this year. Maybe algebra and/or word problems would be a nice compromise.

Anyway, I won't make any changes for awhile; just leave the accounts registered and any posts they manage to make in the trash and if it goes away we can just forget it, if not I'll use their registration rate to gauge how effective new CAPTCHAs are.

Well since changing it to admin activation, there hasn't been any new bots besides one signing up so far.

I've had 20 accounts sign up, massive included. However they're all deactivated since I switched it to Admin Activation. Thus they aren't getting through.

For account creation, Could you make them choose a color that they see?

So then we could have one color and give a multiple choice of colors of different values. And they pick the color that we've chosen.

Ex.

A light blue pops up.
Q: What color is this? Choose the color from the list below.

Their choices are all dark colors (dark green, dark red etc) besides one which is a light blue.

They choose the light value. If you're color blind, then they would only see the values and could still guess the color.

I dunno how coding intensive that is though.

Okay I've been slacking about doing anything about this, but as I said elsewhere regarding backing stuff up for a looming hosting transfer, I had the brilliant idea to put an FTP program on my U3 flashdrive. So now I can work on this at school during my pointless tech class in addition to breaking the IT department's security measures.
