well, its been over 3 years now since i built my desktop......and processors for my socket size are becoming hard to fined.........so even though i am not even going to be on the same side of the country as my old brute, i am going to go ahead and buy the next and last proc that mobo will ever have.

AMD Opteron 185 2.6 Ghz socket 939 duel core

i will probably go all out on my video card next. seeing as i can transfer the video card to whatever computer i build a year or 2 from now to replace the one i am upgrading. all said, almost 4 years out of a $2,000 gaming rig (over $300 just for the sound system) is not bad at all. might even get 5+ years yet Smile

still kinda a sad day though......

unless AMD gets back on top in time, my next comp will also be an intel build.......

TBH spending over $200 on an outdated processor isn't worth it, but if you want to get every last bit out of your system, go for it.

well, when you consider the fact that my old AMD Athlon 64 3500+ running at just 2.2Ghz and with less than 1/3 the cash of my new one. i think i should get another year out of it. just need to upgrade the grafix next. but i am not afraid to go all out on that because i will most likely pull that card with the hard drives and carry it over to my next computer.

oh, also, my next computer will be running at least 2 possessors. most likely just 4 cores total for now though.

long story short, i am thinking that a server will not need a big grafix card. i will only need to actually look at what it is doing when i set it up. and for that, i dont need anything but the lowest settings possible.

i might get another gig of ram though. the ram i have is fast as hell (for DDR, VERY low latency to) but it is only 1 gig. not bad at all for the time, but now and days......for a server, its just not enough.
