now i know most of you believe wow to be an evil demon scourge, positioning itself to take over the planet, and in some ways that may be true, id just like to shed a little more light on the whole thing for people who dont know about it

as some of you know, ive been playin for a while now, and have come to the conclusion that it isnt all bad... most of you probably remember my almost militant opposition to anything with the letters mmo attached to it, but after comparing it to pirates, there are a lot of things that are similar.

when it comes to the leveling up part, wow is pretty much just like any rpg youve ever played, kill stuff, do quest get xp, bla bla bla.... while they try at times to make this task time consuming & somewhat hard, theres really no big trick...

but when it comes to pvp, wow has taken a TON of cues from successful shooter gameplay, specifically when it comes to the battlegrounds... there are currently 4 diff battlegrouds where 2 sides fight it out, pretty much like any shooter

warsong gulch: basic capture the flag. 2 bases, open middle, get the flag, bring it back to your flag, you win. wsg is almost an exact copy of ctc when it comes to map design... the 2 bases are separated by an open area with a few trees & bushes & shit... doesnt get much simpler cap 3 flags to win

arathi basin: conquest all the way. there are 5 points to capture, holding a point makes your score go up, the more you hold, the faster it goes... first to 2000 points wins

eye of the storm: this one i like a lot & wish we could figure out how to do in a shooter... basically the same as arathi basin, only with 4 points to hold and a central flag... same idea as conquest, but you can brab the center flag & bring it back to a base you control for extra points

yeah yeah, i know, so what?? wheres all the pirating & looting and such

well... it has that too... you really cant go anywhere in the game without running into a pirate or 2. theres a whole pirate town called booty bay, and a pirate faction you can gain reputation with to get a pirate hat complete with parrot. basically, there are scallywags everywhere

the other thing about it, is theres just as much opportunity to meet cool people as in pirates (but as most popular games go, there are a high percentage of douchebags as well) there are a couple of random people in my guild that weve taken a liking to... just as piratey as any of us (our guild is called domesticated pirates)

so please, before you judge poor choc, remember this: hes a pirate too, if you yarrr him, does he not yarrr back?? if you fill him with rum, does he not sing badly all night?? if you give him a cutlass, will he not swashbuckle??

remember, playing wow doesnt make you evil, not being a pirate does Smile

There's an instance for level 20 with a big pirate ship in the end.

WoW is not bad. WoW fanboys are. I hate fanboys and WoW fanboys are usually the worst. They even come to other MMO's and shout in OOC ''OMG LIEK WOW PWNZO0RS THIS GAME''.

Nice name... Mslegolas. Undead rogue ftw though!

ehhhh how is that any different from people out of the blue xfiring you saying "OMG XFIRE IS BAD YOU ARE SATAN NOW", and trust me it does happen (I've been playing wow for 3 day and its happened at least half a dozen times)

ive also omitted a fair chunk of the fun stuff you can do to fuck up a fanboys day, i should mention one that was unbelievably fun the other night

the allies (ie the enemy) have a system of boats that can take them around the world... this in itself is practically begging for actions of piracy, so me & my crew set off for adventure

first, we arrive in town... of course there are guard that protest and are quickly cut down....

next step: rape & pillage... this is really as easy as it sounds, if you see something, kill it without hesitation and without remorse.... hes 40 levels below me?? oh well

step 3: the boat... heres where the magic begins. since the boat is a major source of transportation, there are always adequate numbers of victims. hop on the boat & kill em all... the boat is yours!!!

step 4: the next town... afer a while the boat departs... this is where you can really make some noise.... 99% of the time, the poor bastards at the other town have no clue that pirates have commandeered their precious boat, so its a simple matter to hop off & slaughter em all to the last man when the boat gets there, usually leaving plenty of time to hop back on & make the trip back to the previous town

step 5: holding... what good is a fancy new ship if you cant keep it... by some miracle, some of these idiots youre slaying have friends, so the trick is to hold them off... generally they just add to the glory & are simply more lubbers to cut down

dont think going wow is going soft... piracy in any form is still piracy

I still don't like PvP in WoW. Battlegrounds... what kind of war is that? And the game is supposed to be massive. RvR in DAoC ftw.

I'd be a pirate too, but I'd get murdered pretty quick since I'm a low level. I DO have an albino dinosaur for a pet, though... and I am in the same pirate-themed guild as Supa.

Meh, I don't hate WoW. I don't like fees. I'd much rather buy a server to where hundreds of people can play for free than for me to buy a subscription just for one person for roughly the same price.

It's also weird that when people play WoW, they just disappear kinda. Now I see where you've been Supa =P

How much do you think a server that can hold thousands of players at same time would cost? And the servers you play on aren't the only servers. There's login servers etc.

And monthly fees aren't just to keep servers up. Ultima Online is still getting major updates after ten years. Compare that to BF2.

I can't afford the fees or time myself(weed and beer take up what bills don't and work and school kill my hours). I just harrass people because it is fun. I love rpgs and might in the future play a mmorpg like WoW, but that would be after I'm out of school and have time.

The ship boarding and swording sounds great though.

Oddly enough, Guild Wars can handle having thousands of people on their servers. So why can't WoW? It just dun make any sense. And I have tried that timecards thing. I prefer it more than I prefer paying monthly because I can just buy it once and play during that time. After it ends, I won't play until about half a year. It's kinda like buying the game again.

Personally, I dun mind if anyone plays WoW. I'd probably play it if it weren't for the fees. I also don't want to be playing the same game for ten years either =P

Supa is going to have a mini fly? =D Congratz Smile
