That site is pretty useful... just hope you don't have to reformat like i did when i had the same problem. This is one of those situations that made me glad i have the adaptor so i can plug my laptop HDD into my desktop PC so i could save everything... don't think they're too expensive either.

pop disk in, goto recovery console/command prompt of some sort, then:

expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32

My dad had a linux machine and spent hours making it look and act just like windows because the guy he made it for wanted a linux machine but was afraid of the change. So my dad coded it and all and gave it to the guy.

The guy couldn't figure out how to do something and went into a shop to have someone show him how to do it. The tech support said they'd never seen a machine like that and they reformatted the thing to have windows so they could show him what to do

Once my dad found out about that, he swore to never do that to a computer without being paid again.

Wow, that must've sucked bad. There is a build of linux that does exactly that....

If someone ever said they wanted to try Linux but were afraid of the change, I wouldn't force it on them by coding them an interface that mocks windows. That's just a disaster waiting to happen.

How is it forcing on them when they are wanting to try it?

It had the same abilities as linux and he wanted to learn some of the code. The easiest way to do that (especially for this particular person) is to gradually switch to it.

It's like if I said "I want to change my hair color, but I'm afraid for X reason", and then you go and do it while I'm asleep. The guy wanted to do it but wasn't ready for it and I don't think making it look like Windows was really a bright idea. Why not have him start with a LiveCD?
