So this happened yesterday morning, after a week of strange symptoms (My computer would randomly restart, my mouse would freeze up, etc). That morning I try to start my computer up, but it wouldn't even get past the boot screen before it would freeze or restart. So I open the case, not much dust in there(I cleaned it 2 weeks ago), and the fans seemed to be working properly.

I have 1 gig of RAM in there, two 256 Samsungs(came with this damn prebuilt) and one 512 Kingston module. I took out 2 at a time and tested each, the only time it came to the boot screen was when all of them were in there. However, after a couple of restarts again, the moniter does not even pick up a signal.

My hypothesis is something got fried - though I do get into the habit of turning off my computer at the first sound of lightning, and touching metal parts before opening my case.

If I should buy anything new, screw that, I'll probably save up to build my own.

Any help would help.

Crying or Very sad

Does your power supply work? If it does then check your graphics card.

If everythign else works than the monitor doesn't get signal and the comp just booted/shut down after a while it might be it. RAM might also cause it, but then you would get bluesceens and crashes.

Just had this same issue boom Smile

Ok, here's what I did. First, i tried booting from a CD. A windows installation disk works fine for this. If you can get it to boot there, you're probably in the same boat as me. I had this issue, then I had an issue where I couldn't get the bios screen to pop up when I turned the computer on, and that was the result of a bad stick or RAM. Once I got that all sorted out, I booted a distribution of linux, made sure everything came up (hard drives, memory size) and then tried installing it. If you can get it installed and booted, then we'll still be in the same boat.

Here's the quirky part. To get XP installed again, I basically had no clue how it did it. For a long time the installation would just loop at the part where it formats the drive and copies the installation files over. Yesterday, it just decided to work. IDK if you will have this same problem, but if you do, just be persistent with it.

GL man!

Reseat the video card. Try the RAM again.

And this is why you don't skeet in your computer kids, no matter how much you love it.
