It sounds less complicated than the method I have used for digitizing old records. When I did it, I went from the turntable to a stereo receiver and then into recording software on my computer. The method worked just fine, but it was a pain to haul the receiver and the turntable to where the computer was.

As long as it has some sort of amplifier in it, it will probably be all right. Without amplification a record player gives an extremely low signal.

one of my good friends has a giant vinyl collection that he inhereted from his dad and he just did some funny wiring and might have used a usb interface imunsure, but he just put the audio input and recorded it direct in on his comp
it turned out fine actually the songs sound alot better than the normal cd ones, they ahve a sort of scratchy character.
the only thing is with the vinyl recording software is usually you have to press a button that says when the song ends adn a new one begins
its a time exhausting process but its worth it,
