Slipstreaming seems soooo complicated though...

Anybody hear anything about how vista is going to handle installing on a sata drive?

Not really, there are like 600007847943799 guides on how to slipstream and programs that even do it for you.

i am not sure about any of that.

my last comp i built started off with 3 sata HDDs in it, dint even have a floppy drive. i just turned on the comp, pout in the win xp pro install disk, and was playing doom III within an hour.

the mobo in that comp is an ASUS a8n sli delux

it can handle 8 SATA HDDs with out add on's. Very Happy it now has almost 1TB of HDD

even 2 really old ata or some crap hard drives from a comp i had back in 97........and it was a hand me down when i got it........only 8GB or so.........maybe 20gb at the most.......cant remember......only use it for the old OS that is on it....

That's odd, because if I am not mistaken that's an nForce chipset, and I've never had any support for any SLI chipset that wasn't Intel.

Actually, I belive that if your computer has an onboard SATA controller, xp will install fine without a floppy. It is just really hard to tell if the mobo you are planning on buying has a sata controller or not...

If it has SATA ports, it should subsequently have a SATA controller.

the deal is that windows (or more accurately the windows installer that runs in the dos type shell on a new install) as absolutely no friggin clue what a sata controller is or how to use it... the floppy gives it the drivers so that it knows

on a normal ide hard drive youd need the drivers too, except that the windows installer has a generic set of those thatll run until you get windows installed & install your chipset drivers
