You might want to review the 3Gb/sec standard because it doesn't even come close to that...

This is actually the first time I've ever hooked up a SATA. Anything different I should be weary of? Like if it needs some type of support in the mobo, but I looked at the XPS 600 components and they offer selling you SATA drives. So I may have it (if I need anything at all).

your motherboard can be compatible, or you can make it compatible by adding a Pci card (I think)

yes you can

also, if you are installing windows (fresh install) on the sata drive, youll need a floppy with the sata drivers for your mobo when you install (if youve ever read the windows install, it asks if you need to install 3rd party sata/raid drivers)

also, sata drives require a diff power plug than normal devices

About installing windows on a sata drive, anybody know if you can use a usb floppy drive to do it, or does it have to be a standard floppy?

Although nowadays USB booting and reading can be handled by BIOS, Windows XP extra driver loader is a picky motherfucker. Basically it's a nazi about what you put in the floppy drive. IIRC, it's a bitch to get it to detect CDs which is why people just slipstream drivers... I'm sure it would pitch a fit if you tried the USB drive. Who knows though Smile
