It was a big torrent site.
One of the biggest (if not THE biggest).
Anyone who is surprised that it happened is just kidding themselves.
It was a site that helped people steal, it was bound to get shut down eventually.

Sure it helped people steal, point is that what they were doing was reputedly legal in Sweden.

the people who shut that site down are in for WAY more than they know....

i hang around the pirate bay a bit (enough to know that they have a bona fide political party in sweeden) and all this is doing is giving them a bunch of media coverage right before an upcoming election in spetember...

yes it helped ppl "steal" but i dont think anyoen really has a reason to look down on anyone who uses torrents.... the RIAA & MPAA have gone completely off the deep end lately (trying to get a recorder for sattelite radio banned, sonys rootkit fiasco, etc) and it about time someone stood up to them... but as it stands, what the pirate bay was doing is very legal & under swedish law, whoever is resposible for shutting them down could also have to pay them for bringing them down & wasting their time (sounds like something the US should do to cut down on stupid lawsuits)
