!!! READ THIS if going to college !!!

If you are going to college there is a great way to get ahead that very few people use. This is not a gimmick. I used this method to skip the boring shit and stay focused on what I wanted to do (not get bogged down in a year or two of general courses).

There are tests called CLEP tests. Google them up or ask questions here and I will try to answer them. I believe this is official site:

Basically you do some self study, pay ~$50, take a 1-hour test and get college credits. (Usually you need a 50% or better to pass) I HIGHLY recommend you get the official Study Guide, as it comes with practice tests, study help, etc.

Taking these tests are WAY better than paying $500-$1500, doing homework, and sitting in class for 16 weeks. Rolling Eyes

My wife was reluctant because it was different. After her first test she was like hell yeah's and took several more.

Most schools limit how many you can do or what classes you can substitute but I think ALL colleges accept some (and probably most) of these tests.

I CLEPped out of classes like History, Psychology, Algebra, Pre-Calc, and Intro-to-Comptures. Razz

I think I have taken 17 CLEP tests - all were pre-approved by my schools. You actually take them AT the college. Shocked

That's 17 classes I didn't have to sit through!!!

Sound too good to be true? It isn't. It is meant for people to cash in on real life experience. Are you alive? Wink

Look up your school's policy on CLEP tests today. It is SOOOO in your best interest.

Unfortunately for me my university only offered CLEPs in foreign language and some math. I sucked the Spanish up, and already had all my math credits from dual credit in HS.

But if I could I would take the, easiest and cheapest way to get your basics out of the way, I know several who have CLEPed out of classes, some even in HS.

Great post Brutus, a great idea for anyone looking to ease college a bit.

OMG they only took math and foreign language!?! Hmm, two year school huh? That is still odd.

Most 4 year colleges will allow you to bring in up to 30 credits (10 courses) this way.

These CLEP tests are also easier to transfer than sit down classes too (BY FAR).

I HIGHLY recommend anyone in college (or going soon look into this).

My school doesn't offer CLEP for the field I'm going into. I asked them when I went there two weekends ago. :/

Just college. If you take them and pass, you just pay the money for the class and you don't have actually sit through it.

Stealth, you dont have to pay for the class??? CLEP is a national program. Schools just host the tests. It costs like $50-70. Your college gets $0... You could take the CLEP at any school and if they said they accept it they would accept it. There is no "fee" like that. Are you sure you are talking about CLEP tests??? If your school does that I would be very surprised. I have attended 7 universities (2 year, 4 year, and grad) and NONE did that.

BoomBoom, I am not sure if you can take them in high school. Find out and post! Very Happy

Even if you cant it isnt too early to consider them when planning your way forward.

They seem to be similair to AP classes, only AP classes are classes and the CLEP is a test

Stealth, you might be thinking of passing out of classes. Like you sign up for a class pay I think its a 1/3 of the class and take a test to test out of it. Colleges usually offer those to but have many stipulations and limits.

Every time I've asked about the CLEP at different colleges, you had to pay what they called an entrance fee (name variates between colleges). This would be as if you were signing up for the class, which would be just the costs of the books and lab fees. This allows you access to the equipment for later on during your year.

For example, You take a CLEP and pass the test. You now don't have to take 3D Design. If you had taken the class, you would have paid a fee in order to access the equipment. But since you passed the test, you'd still have to pay the fee in order to gain entry to that particular area. Kinda like for maintainance.

Well, I think Baylor being a private university has something to do with it(Its a 4 yr school). We could bring in lots of credits, I brought in 24hrs from AP and dual credit classes. Only 15 are allowed after matriculation though, and I haven't heard of anyone being able to CLEP any other classes.
