Need help finding a Genesis/Mega Drive game.

I've been looking for this arcade shooter-type game for a long time now...sorry, but I can only remember a few things about it from when I was 7 or so.

It was a top-down scrolling shooter, like a lot of them (you're at the bottom of the screen). You get a ship/plane and there are probably weapon upgrades, but I can't remember. The one feature that really makes it stand out is that, when you used the bomb that took out all enemies onscreen, a big blue skull would flash across the screen several times...I remember it also had cool music, but that's not saying much.

My friend who I used to play it with says it's "Sagaia", but it's definitely not that. It's a totally different game.

Sorry there's not much to go on, but I really want to find this game again.

would you possibly have been fighting "bizarre, fish-style enemies"? if so, I think you may be looking for Darius, which was an arcade game ported to the Master System under the name (get this) "Sagaia"

if not, a release date / developer name would be very helpful

I have no idea what the developer/release date could be. It's not Darius; I've played that just recently.

It wasn't on that list, but I'm checking www.vgmuseum.com

I'm fairly certain that the name was just one word, but I can't say for sure.
