Schools Locked Down After Gun Battle Erupts

A gun battle erupted in a local town this morning, as police chased down some suspected bank robbers. Authorities tell Eyewitness News that officers with the Nassau County Bureau of Special Operations started following a suspicious car on Grand Avenue when the occupants of the car opened fire on them.

It all happened around 9:30 a.m. near the very busy Baldwin train station.
Authorities say after that initial gunfire and a chase, the suspects ditched their vehicle. Two men were taken into custody. A third suspect was being hunted, and gun-toting police scoured the residential neighborhood looking for the man.

All nine schools in the Baldwin School District were locked down during the foot pursuit portion of the police chase near Grand Avenue and Sunrise Highway. Along with the Baldwin School District lockdown, schools in the Freeport and Rockville Centre and St. Christopher Catholic Elementary were sealed off Monday morning because of that one suspect still on the loose.

Cops searched the area near Grand Avenue both on foot and in the air.

Police say the suspects may be part of a bank robbery team hitting banks throughout the area.


so pretty much i was locked up in my 3rd period class for 5 and a half hours doing pretty much nothing...

I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago, but there wasn't any gunfire and the cops caught them quickly because they ran off on foot.
