It's all math...

Any two-digit number can be written as 10a+b where a is the first digit and b is the second digit.

Thus, subtracting the sum of two digits from the original number yields: (10a+b) - (a+b) = 10a-a+b-b=9a.

Hence, your solution will be a multiple of nine.

And, guess what, all the multiples of nine (namely 9, 18, 27, 36 etc.) all have the same symbol, which then appears in the globe!

notice how it lists 99, but there is no way you can end up with 99 if you follow the directions......

but thats not quite right... diff symbols appear in the globe

Exactly.

Each time you restart it, the symbols on the right side change.

However, the multiples of nine always share a symbol, and its rigged to show that.
