Supposedly, this will turn any socket 423 to a socket 478. I have read revews about it all over the place, but I don't know anything about the sites i read the reviews, or how dependable they are. Have any of you guys heard about something like this and if it really works as easily as they say it does?

It looks like they want like $50! Jeez, just buy a new mobo for $100...

No, i have not heard anything about it specifically but I am sure your mobo's bus speeds, chipset, etc would choke the hell out of a new processor in an old mobo anyway - even if it does "fit". If you can afford a new processor and a $50 addition then cut back a bit on the processor and get teh appropriate/complimenting technology in a proper mobo. Thats my 2 cents.

yeah pretty much... they had something like that back in bx board days... the mobo becomes a choke point & you dont get what you pay for outta the processor

all true, but if he has some POS like a Dell that a new mobo won't fit in, then this might be a decent stop-gap. certainly not a long term solution....save up some more spare change, Boom....

i dunno, i just think that it would be a better deal cuz:
1. the only reason i am upgrading is to play bf2, and this is the cheapest way
2. the mobo i have now is working fine, so i dont see any reason to shell out $50 more than i have to

the only other quick question i have is whether a ht processor would work in it, would work but just not have the ht, or not work at all

you can get a cheap mobo to go with whatever processor you get, not cheap in quality, but price

The word "inexpensive" comes to mind Smile

HT might not work because you can enable/disable settings in the BIOS regarding HT. If I were you, I'd probably go with a non-HT processor.
