I have been shooting quite a few pics lately with my old sony camera and I have found that I really enjoy photography. Christmas is coming up soon and I am thinking of asking for the Canon Digital Rebel XT because I like the feel of SLR cameras and digital cams, and this seems to be the 1337est. Anybody else into shooting a few pics here and there? Any camera suggestions?

im a real photo kid, if you want to be the uber leet sauce, kick it old school get yo self a 35 mm, or mind a manual override camera.

my current camera is a cardbaord box with a little hole in it and i just tape light sensitive paper to the back and expose it for 1 minute plus for minus about 30 seconds depending ont he weather, and it suprisingly gives some unique results.

Here is a review (report) I did for my Mother -in-law. They are the top 5 digital cameras (IMO) for under $400. it kind of explains the most important tech features too.

Check out a Nice Fujifilm camera first. My Enola Gay thread picture was taken with one. I bought it for going to Washington and it is one sweet piece of hardware. Fuji is quality stuff without the brand name price of Kodak or Sony. I hate Sony. Also, bear in mind that no digital camera has really overcome the motion blur problem yet, so a 35mm and a nice scanner will give you more versatile and artistic results.

i would go with a Nikon, #1, a LOT of the better military photos i have where taken with one, #2 they have better reviews, #3 i have actually used both, and like the Nikon more.

i will make a post a bit later and let my mom (the family photographer) give more info) oh by the way, it ant just any Nikon, it is a specific model, that i cant remember, but it does have that SLR feature you are talking about.

What I am really looking for, though, is a camera that has a super fast framerate and super high quality photos. I have one now that is tricky to use because you have to time the 1.5 sec delay perfectly to get a good shot. I have actually gotten pretty good at it, but I would much prefer something with a fraction of a second delay.

Here are some examples of what I do now with the crappy camera.
(me, steve, short1 and the new kid in the hood @ the pool)

And here is what happens all to often with it (notice the focus)

What I am looking for is a camera that is good for taking all the action shots, and won't spit out shots like the one just above.

the only problem is, is that i think the camera is about $1,200 Confused

but it is digital, so you can use it with a comp easly

I think the digital rebel xt has a .3 second framerate, which is pretty good considering the standard 35mm has such an extreme rate, I would never need to be taking photos so quickly (I also don't have the pocketbook to get the photos developed)
