Well i didn't think it could happen cuz my dad got me all the most reliable anti-virus pop-up blocker, etc stuff. I finally got a virus, and like a lot of viruses, it slowly took the life from my computer, but it seemed normal to me, at day 2 i started getting wierded out a bit, more popups were somehow making it past my blocker and it was frusterating to get on the internet anymore. at day 3 programs were slowing down and even more strange popups were getting through, day 4... my pop up blocker just stopped working. my computer would randomly shut down but it made it look like i actually shut it down, like the start menu would open and it would choose shut down, then on day 5, the comp locked up and i had to restart by holding the power button and then... the coputer would no longer load. it would look like it's loading, then after loading the screen would go black for a minute or 2, and it would restart. theres no way for me to get on in safe mode or anything, the comp is a useless waste of space now. and the worst thing about it is that i just got 2 new ram chips and a new video card for bf2... it no longer works, but if i were to get a new cheaper version of the comp i have i can use them still, so i'm gonna see if i can't mail it in and have EVERYTHING started over like the computer was fresh from the box... or if worst comes to worst i'm getting a new comp. i guess i should mention i got an emulator before all this happned and 1 rom, but i got sick of it and uninstalled it and deleted it from my computer the day i downloaded it. god help me, lol

Boot the computer and spam F8 every half second from the moment it turns on. Go into safe mode that way.

You're not going to throw out a nice machine just because it has some viruses in it. If you were intelligent enough to install some RAM and a video card, i'd think you could at least slow down and work our way though some virus pwnage.

When you get into safe mode, tell me.

i doubt that was even a "virus" in the traditional sense... just a good solid piece of spyware... if its in the registry, safe mode whould get u in...

hers another theory... if u can wipe out the registry & go to the default (windows has default reg setting backed up for u) it should stop the spyware from starting & let u in the comp, then u can system restore back a ways & then start running virus scans/adware scans & see if u can nuke it...
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307545

ive used this method to restore comps with corrupted registrys before & it should at least get u into windows, but try the safe mode thing before you try this... if u can get into safe mode, use every scanner u can get your hands on... i reccomend, norton, avg, spybot & adaware, run em all... and if u have norton utilities, run windoctor too

www.getfirefox.com

Use FIREFOX as your browser. It's MUCH better and way more secure. It will cut the odds of you getting any kind of shit. You probably won't like it at first, but stick with it and you'll see how you can customize it.

For anti-spyware, I really reccomend AD-AWARE ( http://www.lavasoft.us )

For anti-virus, I can't say much. I don't have any anti-virus, but I reccomend you run Panda Software's ActiveScan ( http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm )

It's a free online scanner that's relatively quick. It detected and removed way more than AVG or any other virus proggie did.

on my old comp i had norton internet securety 2004. on my new comp i have norton internet securety 2005 anti spyware adittion. it only costs about $40 or so and has all the good noton apps with it.
