Releases this Saturday Very Happy I wonder who's gonna die! And just what's gonna happen. Anyone else planning on buying it? Been looking forward to this book about ever since I read the last one (the day after that had been released). It's a great read for kids, if you have them.

And I'm not ashamed for being almost 18 and buying HP Very Happy

I haven't read any of them but have seen all the movies. Are the books that much better than the movies? I know in most cases that is true. Can you start reading the book say now without reading the previous ones and then still be up to date?

the fourth book was AMAZING. one of the best non-adult (not saying it's a kiddie book, just saying it wasn't written specifically for adults) fantasy literature i've read in a long time.

The fifth book blew chunks. i don't mean to brag, but i'm a fantastic reader- i can read insanely fast and remember EVERYTHING i read. But the fifth book, i read it in like 10 hours, and i can't remember more than a vague plot outline... it was horrible. There was hardly any action and it really seemed like JK was just stalling the plot for the next book.

I hope the 6th book goes back to the original quality of the first and the fourth, they were the best IMHO.

I preordered the 6th book a few months ago on amazon, should arrive tomorrow morning.

Books are alot better than movies, of course. You could start reading them now, there are tiny things like "who was harry's crush in the fourth year", and "who tried to kill harry when he was a baby" to bring you up to speed, but to get the entire plot you should read them all. They're not hard books and it wouldn't take you long to read them all.

Tom Riddle aka Voldemort Shocked

But anyways, I read Harry Potter by just pure luck. Cause my sister that lives in Chicago,Illinois. And she bought me the book, I was in the hospital one day, so I had nothing more to do, and I read it, while I was at the hospital (Note , the 1st book of the series). And read the 1st through the middle of the 4th books, and the got lost. But there books are great, when you try and stop reading it, you gotta continue, cause knew thing always happen and you gotta find out .

So I recommend it to ya k9. Razz

Don't worry Lubber, I am almost 20 and will buy it eventually. The books are MUCH better than the shitty movies, they do no justice. And as to Jabber's comment I agree, I am a fast reader and remember things as well, and the 5th book I cannot recall at all. 1-4 I can remember decently.

Oh and All Quiet Along the Western Front is amazing, I read it a few years back. Perfect book that deals with WW1 trench warfare from the German point of view, I remember some of the gory details, damn fine novel for the non-kiddies Very Happy .

But the best books are Ender's Game and the sequels by Orson Scott Card, the Lonesome Dove novels by McMurtry, and as silly as this seems ththe Star Wars novels about the Rebellion/New Republic after the events in the original trilogy. Various authors and many books, but damn good mostly, Zahn especially. Better than this crap Star Wars stuff out today, nothing is like the originals and the novels follow the journey after the death of the Emperor as they continue to fight remnants of the Empire.

I read way too much but the best novel ever is a little one called Final Blackout by L. Ron Hubbard, it is about World War continuing far into the future even though it came out before WW2, and about the Lieutenant and his brigade. It is a small book too.

L. Ron Hubbard .. *shudders*

To Jimmy and K9 - Never judge a book by it's cover. Especially by it's movie. The movies were absolutely and astoundingly horrible. The books (notably one and four, as yabber said) were some of the best books I've ever read.

I was exceptionally skeptical when I first heard about it. Some lady asked my dad and I if we'd ever heard of or read "Harry Potter". She says "well, do you like wizards and dragons and magic?", and my dad and I both said "fuck no!". Seriously, I fucking hate that whole fantasy genre. That shit makes me think of LARP and LIGHTNING BOLT. Then she said "Well too bad, I really liked these books." I kinda shrugged and said "Whatever, biatch.". A few months later, we started reading it aloud in school. I thought "Wow, this sounds interesting... somehow". I grabbed a copy and blew through it.

I've never been a huge fanboi like a lot of people, nor was I ever in a big rush to get the newest book. In fact, I didn't even bother reading book five (I just assumed it would be a piece of shit ... JK has her money, good for her, wtf does she care about Harry Potter anymore?)

But before you go around saying "Well I don't have a taste for Harry Pothead" based on the ghey ass movie, I reccomend you read the book and try to forget everything about the horrendous movie.

Jimmy isn't judging it, all I said was harry pothead, a reference to a joke in Scare Movie 2. I know alot of people read them, and I just dont read that stuff.
