Thats right mateys, Blunugz is in a bit of trouble n be askin his mateys for a helping hand!
Hears the deal.. Lately my video has been acting up. My computer will start up fine, but my screen will go black. the monitor light stays blue like its working fine, but the screen is black. I can turn the monitor off, then back on and it will work again for a few seconds, then goes black again. Sometimes it will work for a lil while before going black, like now, but for the last few days it hasnt worked at all.
Im guessing its my video card pooping out on me. Its an old 5200 and Ive been playing alot of bf2 on it, so thats why I think its the video card.
Ive tried updating all my drivers, and checking the vid card slot, and connections. All are good to go. But the problem remains.
If anyone has any ideas, plz let me know.
Or, if anyone has a video card layin around thats better than a geforce 5200, plz let me know! Id really appreciate it!! Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.
I cant stand not being able to use the pc n do 1 online with you guys!!
HELP NUGZ OUT!! START A FUND OR SOMETHING OMFG!!!!11!!

I had what sounds like the same problem with my old Acer 1521 monitor. Tried the same kind of fixes you have (drivers etc) plus another 2 gfx cards which i have spare and none of them worked - the blue light was on whilst the screen was black, although sometimes it would work for about 2 mins and then go black again.
It turned out that there was a fault with the monitor so i had to send it off to Acer for repair which solved the problem but was monitorless for about 3 weeks. This makes me hope that you don't have the same problem that i did but the characteristics are very similar.

before i started playing on line, i had the same problem with teh same card too.........
what happens is the card craps out and then the onbord one kicks in, but you do not have the monitor pluged into the onbord card so the screen goes black.
the only sloution i had was to get a new card. and since then my old comp has worked fine.
if you want to find out for certan if this is the problem, try pluging your moniter into your onbord card after the 5200 craps out. if you get it to work, that 5200 is gone, like mine was.
it would not happen to be made by pny would it? _________________ YAT YAS

Well supa did have a good idea about going back to best buy.
Its still covered under the service plan, so I think Im just going to take it in. My luck though, Ill bring it in and the damn thing will start up n run fine, like it is now. Then some smart ass best buy nerd will tell me that theres nothing wrong with it, and that theres nothing they can do. Then Ill have to get kicked out like supa.
Its either the monitor or the card, but right now, it sounds like a best buy service desk nerds problem.
Thanks guys. (and supa) Ill keep you posted.

You can quickly narrow it down by smacking the crap out of it when it's black and see if it flickers or even starts working - then you'll know conclusively that it is the monitor. Or, smack it while it's working.
Don't smack it too hard tho, or maybe you'll be like I was: "holy crap! where's that smoke coming from" definitely a monitor for me! _________________

yeah, its the monitor. I smacked the sides of it the last time it started to go to shit, and it stayed on instead of going black. -_-

Its very very very likely your monitor that is hosed. I would say definitely but I am wiser than that. Turning your monitor off then on would not have had 'restart' effect on your video card...
Do you have on-board video? If so use that for a quick test to prove its not the video card and is the monitor. I think you could also unplug the video cable and see if you get that funky screen saying there is no video input. If it stays black then its the monitor. That part is a fma test though (aka 'from my ass') cuz I am not positive that test would work exactly like that.
If you do not have on-board video (or a spare video card) then take the PC to a friend's and use his monitor to prove it isnt the the video card. _________________

Im certain its the monitor at this point though. The videocard wouldnt be affected by the slaps to the sides of the monitor. When the monitor goes black, it goes dim, or flickers a lil bit first. If I smack it like fonzy, it gets bright again and works, doesnt go black. But then I can be in the middle of a shoot out and it will go black... Hopefully bestbuy keeps service plans on record, because I know I dont have any of the paperword proving I have the service plan. But they should be able to type in a name and addy or something. I should be ok in a day or 2.
