No. It has nothing to do with rounding. 0.999.... equals 1. Period. No rounding involved.

For brevity, I'm using 0.9~ to mean 0.9...

Let x = 0.9~

x = 0.9~
10x = 9.9~
10x - x = 9.9~ - 0.9~
9x = 9
x = 1

And 3 does equal 5 (for sufficiently large values of 3).
