Theres some nice console ports for PC and I have thought about getting a controller. But these little plastic boxes costs a fortune and I'm having hard time to understand it all.

I have thought the obvious one Xbox360 controller, but I also found a PS3 controller by Logitech. I can find these both for 30€, but I have never held a PS3 controller on my hands before.

What kind of plugin does the console pads have? Can I just get any Xbox controller somewhere and plug it into my usb or something? Or do I need a specific PC version of it? Do I even need an official pad or is there a cheaper generic ones that are cheap and also good solid controllers?

I'd go with the 360 controller. It's prolly the most comfortable out there, and, being made by Microsoft, it's fully compatible with Windows.

The wired one just plugs right into a USB port; wireless has a USB receiver with enough cord length to tuck it out of the way somewhere. No need for a special PC version. They do sell ones tagged as "for Windows" but they're the exact same price, just they come with the drivers on CD -- but they're online too and should autodownload when it's plugged in.

Wireless-for-Windows costs more than the wired, but that's just because it comes with the receiver packaged. You could, for example, buy the USB PC reciever separately and buy a wireless one for the console, same price and same exact products.

So in short--
Wired for PC == Wired for console
Wireless for PC == Wired for console + PC receiver

I'd recommend the wireless; battery life is long and you don't have to worry about the cord. Plus, if a friend has a wireless one for the console they'll only be able to use it on your PC if you've got the receiver, and will still be able to plug in a wired to another USB port anyway -- so by getting wireless you'll be compatible with both kinds.

Go with 360. Like USAF said, it's the most comfortable and natively compatible with most games.

Even PC Gamer rated the Xbox 360 controller as being of the highest quality and comfort. They said the only way it could be any better is if it dispensed Pez. That's a big deal coming from them.

Personally I use a Wii remote because I happened to have one handy one day. It's trickier to set up but has more potential use. If I'm feeling lazy then I'll plug my classic controller in, start up my mouse control script and browse the web from the comfort of my bed. Other sexy uses include using the wii remote as a remote control for VLC and, if I ever get my hands on a balance board, proper audiosurfing.
