Why are you so interested in this game? You place your resource base and defend it and then you move on your next mission and you do the same thing!

It's grinding! You kill same enemies all over again, doing the same thing over and over again, it never stops. Bullshit, free or not but wasting your time with this is unbelievable.

GET READY FOR A RANT!

FireFall is a class-based shooter (you can switch between first and third person) which features PvP, which the devs are working to improve to the point that it could become recognized as a competitive eSport like TF2 and CS, and PvE, which will feature a persistent, dynamic open-world.

The PvE will feature a world that is 1/10 of the Earth's size and there will be dynamic missions that can be random or slightly influenced by time (going as far as even depending on the time of the year). The best part about this open-world is the fact that each player helps shape the world. For example: One of the events involves towns being attacked by a group called the Chosen, during these invasions the Chosen will work to take over the city and it is up to players in the area to repel these attacks. Should the players fail, the world doesn't reset instead the Chosen maintain control over these cities until the players work to reclaim them. This also causes missions to change, for example: You could have had a mission that involved collecting resources to help improve the town's defences but because the town has been taken over you no longer have that, instead you now have to work on reclaiming a watchtower to help forces move closer to the town so they can reclaim it. The world itself is also slowly revealed based on player actions. Curently in-game, the world is covered in an energy storm called The Melding and it is up to players to work together to build items called Repulsors to push the Melding back and reveal more of the world.

The resource base you mentioned is called a Thumper and it is by no means required. It's something that is entirely optional and the plan is to have it be completely random. Junkyard and I have had moments where we'd be defending a Thumper and next thing we know we suddenly have a Chosen squad trying to destroy it. Thumpers can be useful though since resources you collect can be used to create new weapons and research new tools, they can also be donated to guilds which will help develop tech trees to give members access to new items such as vehicles.

All in all, the game is grinding in the same sense that playing TF2 is grinding.

Note: PvP wasn't mentioned because I don't feel like adding another paragraph and it's mostly standard fare.

So instead of grinding on one same map you can grind on same map with 4 different themes on them? Add to that some random mission that will include doing the same stuff what you were doing in the missions before that. It will end up like that and when it's free there won't be some massive updates on the way. Defend base or assault base, all of them are the same, shoot same enemies countless of times. Neutral

And TF2 isn't grinding if you are playing it competively, you are playing against human players and they switch their style and tactic on the way. Computer AI is the same shit you are seeing in Skyrim or any other game.

I have to admit I don't understand people who are playing MMOs to beging with, because most of those games are a waste of your time on massive scale.

Grinding is a term used in video gaming to describe the process of engaging in repetitive and/or boring tasks not pertaining to the story line of the game. The most common usage is in the context of MMORPGs like Final Fantasy XI, World of Warcraft, Tibia, or Lineage in which it is often necessary for a character to repeatedly kill AI-controlled monsters, using basically the same strategy over again to advance their character level to be able to access newer content. MUDs, generally sharing much of the same gameplay as MMORPGs, encounter the same problem. Grinding may be required by some games to unlock additional features.

no levels in TF2 the only "grinding" is time in game for drops

There is no facepalm big enough...
Look, just try the game out when it's released and then try judging it. It's free so it's not like you have anything to lose.
