Extend defense respawn?
Extend it by 2 seconds.

Right now we have a re spawn time of:
offense=4 seconds
defense=8seconds

I say we set the defense respawn to 10 seconds. Not only does this punish defense more for dying, but it would make offense less of an uphill battle, this is especially important on the later egypt maps.

Let's say that it takes offense 10 seconds to make it to point two, and it takes defense 3. Now player O and player D killed each other. So to get to the point from the time of death would take player O 14 seconds, as he is on offense. Player D gets 11 seconds, which gives him an extra 3 seconds to get into position to defend from player O. Now, it is possible to get to the point earlier via GRU, jumping, overdose, DA, etc. However for many of those it requires a sacrifice of health which means that player D now has two advantages over you: health and time.

I do recognize two things wrong with my argument:
1. Engies
2. It depends on point two.

So let me address them:
As junkyard pointed out to me, engies need those 3 seconds to set up their base from the spy wreaking havoc on them, and while they will not have a full base set up or anywhere near to it they are still an advantage due to the advantage of the respawn time on their team mates. Even if your team is full of terribad players, it still means that any player from offense but a spy will have to go through them to get to you, giving you time to set up turrets. This means that a spy is your only source of worry, and unless they have docs-hax and headshot you every time you should be able to look out for them.

Now, the same theory applies to point two. Outside of egypt 1, offense still has quite awhile to get to their point one. In fact I would probably say that it is easier to get to the first point as D on egypt 2 and 3 then it is for O. (Especially since two demoman can camp O spawn on egypt 1). Death in TF2 should have a significant impact on your team, especially on defense where making a mistake should mean you lost the point. Which isn't to say that Offense can't make a mistake, its just from personal experience of egypt especially as a medic. Offense always has to try atleast 10x harder to win on even teams, while defense can coast to victory on most occasions.

My name being mentioned as such pleases me Very Happy

But onto a note related to the poll, I can see why some want this respawn time changed though I will say this: If blue has a good engie or 2 who have teleporters built in appropriate locations (e.g. gate room on map 3) the respawn times for defense shouldn't be that much of an issue.

2 seconds can change alot and I'm just not sure how much it would hinder Red from being able to hold off Blue

One second seems fine, its too hard for offense to win right now. Two might be a bit much, offense's respawn time is rather short

One must be careful when choosing the respawn times. Too short and Blu has to try even harder to win but too long and it's a cake walk for Blu. I mean let's face it, when an uber comes in they tend to take out a lot of Red players and it's made even worse when you have a sniper who can aim watching the spawn (you do not know how many times I've been able to help a team win by watching the Red spawn on stages 1 and 2, especially 2. Because people can only walk out into a line of sight it lets a good sniper suppress half of the Red team, typically the heavier classes.). I think 1 second might work, if not then you guys can just change it after.

Just a thought - keep the poll options limited if you can especially if they are saying the same thing only in different ways.

Hey, there's no penalty for guessing here. We should just try them both out and see what works best. We could always do a closed event in Egypt to test it out ourselves. After we make an educated decision, we unleash our new settings on the public.

I like them how they are. If most are dead-set on changing it, I think 1 second would be tolerable, and 2 would be pushing it.

Giving an altered respawn time a trial run sounds alright, but keep in mind, a closed match with just us is going to be quite different than how most matches in the server play out (general skill level, class balances, etc). To me, it seems important that the server remains fun for all, not just us. I'd say if its going to be changed, just do it, and hold a vote on the server occasionally to gauge the general opinion, of all players.
