So yea, title basically says it all.

I think a cap on the engie class on the egypt server would be a good move. (Probably cap at 4 engies)

Anyone playing on map 2 of egypt knows how much of a living hell it is when there are like 3 sentries on the pillars, 3 below the pillars and other scattered as well. You need like 3 simultaneous ubers just to stand a chance. (Oh, and don't forget airblasting pyros on red as well)

One stands a chance at leastif there are only 4 sentries, but anything more and it's hell for any non-stacked team.

(Note this isn't just a problem on map 2, that's just the most clear cut example)

No - there is always a counter measure if the entire team works together...besides if we put in one condition, there are bound to be more to follow...

Ever since F2P a fully coherent team is basically hopeless unless it's like a highlander or all CT's playing. I think I've only ever seen it be broken once (that being map 2 with 6+ sentries) and that was the fault of the red engies.

I respect your opinion though and it is noted. I used to play on a server for years that had the 4 engie cap and it worked great so I'm probably partially biased

I like the notion but in actuality the idea isn't great. I would much rather have the egypt patch that fixed the arch than cap a class. If we cap one class, next people start asking for more caps, and then weapon bans. However if the snowball effect doesn't start we might reach a point where the good engies such as junkyard, and lego can't play because Derp McDerpson and his three buddies decided to build sentry nests in the spawn/

And yea I can see those downsides, though we only ever ran into the "I want to play engie cause I'm good but the class is full of nubs" once or twice on the server.

But I think your guy's positions are enough to close this thread, or at least the idea for now.


On a different note I did hear a way to fix the pillar issue: Change the server settings so that wrangler does more friendly fire damage on the operating engie, this way he dies while trying to jump. I can't say I am in favor of this but I heard this was a fix.

I honestly don't like messing too much with the game outside of model changes for aesthetics. The egypt patch is a possibility but I want to see what else it changes, since by killing the engineer spot it might also make it difficult for soldiers and demomen to do their job.

If someone would be so kind as to find the egypt patch notes and post them, then perhaps we might find a better alternative in that path.

Pharoh swears there is a patch, and also says he will join CT. He already found the patch will give it to us if we want to use it. Thats the question though, should we? I say we put it to a vote

the pillar isn't the problem, its having 2-3 sentries protecting the 2 sentries on the pillar.

I'm with Massive. One cap begets more caps. My full opinion on the arch can be found in the vote thread.

As far as it being impossible, I would agree with this if the game didn't let you change classes with each spawn. If the defending team has, say, 8 sentries up on the point, and the other team doesn't switch a significant portion of its players to demo to counter the problem, that is their fault for not noticing how to counter, not our fault for defending the point. After all, that is the point of defense, why not try and do the best job we can?

I actually disagree with an engy cap. Sure, 75% engies on defense might be hard to beat, but it only takes a couple of smart attackers to overpower.

Let's make it so every time there are more then 3 engi's on defense the game autoswitches the highest scores to demoman and lowest to medic Very Happy
