You knew this review was coming. Hell, I was at a midnight showing because of all the buzz around the series.

This was obviously an improvement over the first part of Deathly Hallows. Since that film acts one and half of two, there was little there to enjoy in itself. The dark tone kept it from being too amusing and there was little resolution, only setup. Well, that all comes to a very rewarding close with this film.

Without going into any level of spoiling detail, this is all about the previous events of the series coming to their closure. Closure is the best word here, since so much attention is given to all the different questions that have arisen up to this point. That's the luxury of splitting this final installment into two films: attention to emotional details. I honestly can't think of anything from this film that should have been left out, cut back or edited out. To be honest, there were a few questions I had about gaps in logic in this film. They're easily answered, of course, in the books or any respectable wiki online. The simple fact that I was left wondering certain things after the conclusion certainly cost this film a point or two in my book, but I can't really fault something this complex for something being lost in translation from book to film format. This is the best send off for a series I've ever seen. I didn't like Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King as much as The Two Towers. Rocky Balboa was a fun movie that was stirring, but it wasn't art. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is still the best of the prequel trilogy, but it can never live up the pedigree of the original three films. The difference with the Deathly Hallows is that it manages to uphold the level of quality that the series has been enjoying. It was a fitting end.

This is very much an A film. If you give half a damn about the series, this should make you a happy person. This will be the biggest film of the year, so catch up on the Potter series and see it while you can. Until the next big thing comes along, this is the last of the true geek series of films for a while.
