New Joystick

Okay the joystick I used for the past 7 or 8 years was a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2. It's nice and generally precise, but ever since I got my desktop PC with XP in August 2003 I've kept the force feedback's power cord disconnected, as it refused to disable it for BF1942 (causing the stick to do its best to lock itself in the center, making quick manuevers in BF difficult).

Anyway, the joystick has this massive round base that was always a bit of a nuisance, but now makes it unusable. It wouldn't really fit on my desk here at college, as I had trouble finding space on my desk twice as wide at home. Additionally, when used with a laptop, which has space below the keyboard to accomodate, the touchpad, the keys+joystick base just take up wayy to much space.

Thus I am now going to replace it. I shall probably purchase this one in the next few days, but I need opinions / suggestions for anything that may be better. Precision control and at least six buttons + a throttle are imperative, as well as a not-too-bulky base.

I have the Saitek Evo and its all I could ask for from a joystick. They seem to know their business.

I prefer the XBox controller for FPS flyers - i.e., GTA. Very Happy

But I think some folk prefer joysticks.

I've never used a joystick before. I had one that would only work for a very older version of windows or some weird thing. It wasn't compatible for XP, only 95. So I never got around to it and just used keys.

Here's what it says about how it works--

still trying to get the interface compatable with my current comp. this comp does not have a plug for it, and the converter i payed for last year on some site never arrived...........(and yes, i want my $20 back)

any way, any one ells know of something other than a supperjoybox that will convert the old school media port to USB? or know of a site that actual delivers wtf you buy from them?

might be able to fly again if i can rig it Razz

oh, the joystic is something i got in 96, made by microsoft. old stick, but still works great, same for the slightly older keyboard im using atm
