Post subject: Age of Empires II disc Audio Track

I'm running Age of Empires II off a MDS/MDF copy of the CD made in DAEMON Tools (game uses SafeDisc 1). It generally works fine, except that there is no ingame music. The music comes from an audio track on the CD (it's basically both a data and audio disc) that plays while you are running the game. It works if I play with the physical CD, and on the virtual CD I can right click and from autorun option choose "Play Audio CD", but it won't run the audio track when running the game. Is there anything I can do to get the virtual CD's audio to work properly?

Same result mounting with Alcohol 120%.

i wish i could repay the Safedisk issues favor with some insight but i have no ideas...

maybe it only uses the CDs player's hardware to run music???

Check the config files in the installation folder if you can change the place where it runs the music tracks from. Maybe you could copy the sound files over to your HDD and change the music source to wherever you put them. At least that's how it works in some games.

There aren't any music files -- it's just track 2 of the CD. Like, it's even supposed to work in a CD player. Can't view it because 'Explore' goes to the data track. Pretty sure the game EXE tells it to spin up the music CD.

That's actually interesting. I've never liked game music personally. I shut them all off in every game I've ever played. Except Portal.

That's funny - I usually love game music. C&C games have some great music, the Unreal games have interesting music, and I bought The Witcher Enhanced because it came with a soundtrack CD. I love its soundtrack and listen to it at least once a week.

Yeah, I'd guess it's a problem with the way your virtualization software handles the CD calls AoE2 is sending.

Probably the only explanation. SimCity has always had great tunes, and the THPS soundtracks were good. GTA aren't bad either.

I think it's the looping factor and eventually I get sick of it. I also think I started turning them off because I go into Ventrillo and it's hard to hear people in that. Probably where it started.

Even in BFP, I have no idea what the BFP music sounds like. It's been a long time since I've turned it on.

Zelda music owns all.

BFP music is great but "What Shall We Do with a Drunken Sailor" on that flute or whatever instrument it was in pre-0.30 was excellent.
