well, was upgrading my old PC this week, 2 more gigs of ram (G-skillit or some shit like that.......hard to get good DDR Corsair ram any more Sad ) any way, slapped both sticks in, reseated the after market CPU fan, plugged in a new 750 GB hard drive, looked everything over, then pushed the button.

next thing i know, right when it starts loading the windows window to enter your password, i get a flash blue screen (not the typical BSOD), i almost think i read something about memory dump before the computer restarted. not a good sign, but i hope for the best. next time it boots up, the OS on my 80 GB HDD apparently was corrupted. i tried taking all but the essential components out and running it that way and still nothing.

so now i am going to see if i can get the OS install disk shipped to me from out of state and see if i can repair the corrupted files. if that does not work, reinstall the OS on the new HDD and see what i can recover from the 80GB drive.

what i want to know is, could the ram have had anything to do with this failure. this computer had been rock solid for well over 3 years prier to the day i installed the new ram.

It doesnt sound like a RAM-centric failure to me. If it didn't run? Sure. But to cause HD failure? Doesnt seem likely.

However... the coincidence can't be ignored. Maybe you did something more than you intended when moving parts around???

not really sure. the only things i moved when i first installed the ram include, removing my CPU heat sink, sticking the stick in under where it was, placing the CPU fan back in with a fresh coat of grease, sticking the other stick in, then connecting the lose SATA cable i had already plugged into the MOBO some years ago (dont ask me why) into the new hard drive. after i got a message saying the OS was corrupted during reboot, i proceeded to take out the 2 sticks again, and the other 2 HDDs that the OS was not on, tried it again, same message, and just to rule out all other possibilities even though it was a OS issue at that point, i removed my sound card and a few other things here and there. after that resulted in no change, i slapped everything back together including the new ram (that i still have no 100% evidence there is anything wrong with) and chucked the case into my wall locker until i get the OS disk.

so, when i get the OS disk, do you think i should take the ram out before i get it going again? or should i just try to RMA it before there is any proof that there is anything wrong with it........but also before it could potentially damage anything ells in my computer.

EDIT: oh, the new ram is also rated at 3200, same as the 2 old 512 sticks

I'd bet my arse it's the RAM - take em out - reload, after everythings ok put em back in and wait for the Blue Screen....oh the joy of bad RAM
