Tatertot can draw amazing anime cells (black and white with shading). We want to take this to the next level- computers. I am thinking of getting photoshop (we already have a real old version of Draw) and a drawing pad. Is this a good way to go for someone who can draw freehand well? Currently he does pencil and inking.

Also are there any good resources for a 8th grader to use tolearn computer animation/drawing.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, Photoshop is too expensive. Pirate it or get it from a friend who has it, also known as pirate-lite.

as far as animations, this little freeware proggie is cool:

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/stickfigure.html

it's not sophisticated (it's stick figures), but may get him interested in a real animation program - and it's fun to play with

oooooo, if your doing animated gifs, Microsoft GIF Animator is a great free little program. You can also do them in PS. If you really get into it, of course, there is always Flash MX.

As for resources...I've compiled a Grand List of Awesome Photoshop Sites (maybe not 'grand', but 'pretty big') which you can view at http://www.2and2.net/Uploads/Documents/Photoshop%20sites.txt

Mostly tutorials and such. www.good-tutorials.com is an excellent site and you can download really nice Photoshop brushes from www.deviantart.com
