LOL of course the Aliens don't JUST die. Wow, peeps inability in this thread to follow a story-line is sorta funny. The Aliens died because even though they had been planning this war for a million years, they never counted on the genetic change that took place and the tolerances been had built-up by the organisms that inhabited the Earth. So when they came down to attack and use humans as food/energy source for their vehicles that same food/energy source had new and different microbes in it. Morgan Freeman discusses this in his naration at the end of the movie, it's also the reason for the close-up in the beginning of the movie of the all the microbes in the drop off of water on leaf. Spielberg goes full circle by starting and ending with the same concept, it's just that at the start of the flick he doesn't point to the microbes in the water and say, "Here's how the aliens are going to die".
Anyone who saw the orginal movie, heard the radio broadcast, read the book knows that Steven went back to the source (the book) and updated it with modern technology (not Mars but some other planet along with current day army/weapons). The genius of Spielberg is that everything you see in the movie, you see from Tom Cruise's perspective, if Tom doesn't see it neither do you. This adds suspense and uncertainty. This movie rocked except for the cheesy ending with Tom's son who should have been nuked....

Cheesy ending? Damn you Rally - now I may never see it!

Or maybe, hopefully it's not as cheesy as the last 1/3 of The Haunting. It was really suspenseful and creepy........until you see the animated ghost and he begins hacking peoples heads off......come on, the cold rooms, pounding doors, footsteps were all very good and then they went off and ruined it....

but i digress, as long as it's not THAT cheesy, I'll check it out. (is it?)

I mean , Rally I saw ur post , but still, what an GHEY ending. The special effects were great, everything.

And OMG I wanted to kill the girl, she wouldn't shut up. Man if I was Cruise, I would have bitch slapped her from the start. Razz

Anyways , good movie with a GHEY ending. Very Happy

exactly! I agree with everything there Razz

it doesn't resolve anything, it just says, we killed the boston ones, but the rest of the world's still screwed..., unless EVERY single one died / got diseased at the same time

If you really didn't want the ending spoiled for ya, why even take a chance and read this? (by the way, it's kind of like ruining the ending of SW III - you CAN'T! Everyone knows who's darth vader, who the emperor is, where Yoda retires to, etc., etc., etc.) And firing off at Choc like

Lol, if you've read the book, seen the orriginal movie or heard the broadcast, or EVEN Jeff wayne's musical version, you know the ending, lol. It's all generally the same exact story, but they're all really really great and, well, intriguing. I 1st heard the Jeff Wayne musical, then heard the broadcast, then saw the movie, all about 8 or 9 years ago and it still interests me to this day. I liked the orriginal martian entrance better than 26 lightning bolts... 26 lightning bolts just scares me even more because it seems more natural, like it could happen. Anyway, H.G wells made a great book that seemed extrmely beleivable, almost seemed like martians really did invade. Lucky for us as americans, the orriginal story by wells took place in london, MUAHAH... I love the brits though.
