heres how 3=5....
Theorem : 3=4
Proof:
Suppose:
a + b = c
This can also be written as:
4a - 3a + 4b - 3b = 4c - 3c
After reorganising:
4a + 4b - 4c = 3a + 3b - 3c
Take the constants out of the brackets:
4 * (a+b-c) = 3 * (a+b-c)
Remove the same term left and right:
4 = 3
ok, now since 4 = 3... lets make 4 =5
Theorem: 4 = 5
Proof:
16 - 36 = 25 - 45
4^2 - 9*4 = 5^2 - 9*5
4^2 - 9*4 + 81/4 = 5^2 - 9*5 + 81/4
(4 - 9/2)^2 = (5 - 9/2)^2
4 - 9/2 = 5 - 9/2
4 = 5
soooooo since 3 = 4 now & 4 = 5, then 3 = 5 _________________

sometimes those thousandths matter, especially when in measurement, so no
.999 is not equal to 1 _________________

the only problem I see with Supa's statement is this.
Your saying that 3 = 4 when it really doesn't in geographic means. 3 is one unit less than 4. Thus, you cannot use that theorem to prove that 3=5. Now if you used a theorem like Sully did to where you have a variable... then it would make sense.
Saying 3 = 4 as a theorem would be saying like "I have 3 apples here and 4 apples here. I draw a line right inbetween them and I they are both equal on each side. 4 on this side and 3 on this side." BUT if you have a variable... and don't know that there's 3 apples on one side, then you have something to solve and can work from there. _________________ Motherfucking Triangles! For brevity, I'm using 0.9~ to mean 0.9...
Let x = 0.9~
x = 0.9~
10x = 9.9~
10x - x = 9.9~ - 0.9~
9x = 9
x = 1
|
bah... you can't "add ~ for brevity" then perform mathematical operations on it. Lets have ~ = .09 and add it back in...
So,
x = 0.99
10x = 9.9
10x - x = 9.9 - .99
9x = 8.91
x = .99
0.99 = 0.99
This is better chicanery...
Let x = 0.9~ (where ~ still = 9)
x = 0.9~
10x = 9.9~
10x - x = 9.9~ - 0.99~
9x = 8.91~
1.01x = ~
1.01x = 9
x = 8.91
0.99 = 8.91!!!
jeez, if your gonna goof math do it with drama~ _________________

First proof (3=4):
If a + b = c, then a + b - c = 0. Therefore, dividing by it is illegal division by 0 and the proof is invalid.
Second proof (4=5):
The handling of square roots is wrong. For every real, positive (zero has only one square root) x, there exists two real values of y such that y*y=x and Y1 = -Y2. The proof uses the positive square root on one side of the equation and the negative square root on the other and is therefore invalid.
Brutus:
I was using ~ to signify that the digit was infinitly repeating in the same the same way that a line over the last digit written would be used. It isn't 0.99, it's 0.9-repeating. _________________ sig...?

SoCoLDNORTH19: you know, i don't think any of the calculating that they are doing is actually proving anything
SoCoLDNORTH19: it all depends on what you start with
SoCoLDNORTH19: equations will always equal whatever you wrote them to equal
SoCoLDNORTH19: really, equality is true to one equation but false to another
Llordaerb1: that's a rather good point
SoCoLDNORTH19: no number is equal to a different number unless if another number or numbers/variables are added, subtracted, divided, or multiplied by it in an equation type situation
SoCoLDNORTH19: you have to think more about graphing something and how it would work in space more than you think about just the numbers
SoCoLDNORTH19: on a coordinate plane, 0.99... does not equal 1
SoCoLDNORTH19: they are different points
SoCoLDNORTH19: and they have an infinite number separating them
SoCoLDNORTH19: because infinity is not the bottom nor the top of the number line, it is between every number
SoCoLDNORTH19: simply, limitations _________________ Motherfucking Triangles! Being all three sided n' shit, who do they think they are?!

Unweighted cumulative, no. I have like a 3.7.
Unweighted just last semester, yes, I did (first time I got straight A's since 4th grade).
firefox_71: I'm not talking about 0.999, I'm talking about 0.9.... (zero point nine repeating).
And Stealth: If there are an infinite number of real numbers between 0.999... and 1, would you kindly list one of them? _________________ sig...?

Damn you Wang! Ordinarily, I'd be researching Godel's Incompleteness theorem so I know how to thwart your misguided attempt to disprove me. However, I'm instead doing something with an actual girl. Not a fictional one. Hah! _________________ sig...?
