this is sobering

http://www.casualty-maps.com/

look at the ranks of the dead soldiers, not any Bush's friends, associates, relatives or their sons and daughters.

Bah, not to history buffs. 2000 soldiers - compare that to even a SINGLE WW1 or WW2 battle - let alone the war. Other wars cost hundreds of thousands and even millions of lives in wars just 50 years ago - and sometimes MANY more civilian deaths to boot. That sounds callous but I have lost relatives to war and am myself a multi-tour vet of the first Gulf War that enlisted to make a difference in the world. So this is not something I speak of in a purely scholastic or 3rd person kind of way.

Anyway, history hasnt played out yet but the casualties:goals ratio of this war (a war of huge magnitude - to actually destroy a regime and way of government, not just bully and make economic treaties) hopefully indicates a brighter future for a race that WILL go to war.

Hopefully in 50 years it will be the machine count instead. Maps like this will be around as long as there are people around to make them but hopefully our children's maps will only show 20-30 people... I hope that is all my children have to fear.

well said, my view exactly.

ok i just spent 1 hour looking for something that had actual figures on it but i know that in the civil war we lost at least 10 x the number of people we did in French Indo China (modern day Vietnam, Louse, and Cambodia) and that was 100 years later. and i know that we lost about the same ratio of people lost in this war as in Vietnam and that was only 30 years ago......times are changing. but people need to relies that in any war today and in the near future will have casualties. the usa tries to keep them to a minimum but they are unavoidable.
